After playing other brands , I felt the Strat was like coming home. I thought I was a Strat player. Still love my Strats , but now it seems the tele(s) are more cared for and played -regardless the fashion of it

It just seems like I see a lot more people using them, especially young female artists.

I knew that in 1968 when my best friend left town with my Telecaster. Great guitar, I wonder where that sob went :x

Every generation comes across something for the first time and thinks they discovered or re-discovered it...

The alphabetized generations (X, Y, Millenium or whatever) is no different...

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the Telecaster is, and has always been, a guitar staple...

If the new generation is causing a temporary spike in sales (which I actually doubt), it's just that... a new bunch of guitar players needing an instrument.

If any of the Fender line-up has come in Vogue, it's got to be Mustangs and Jaguars, and that's only because guys like Cobain, who were too poor to buy new, got these at rock-bottom prices in pawn shops because of their low popularity.

cheers!

I bought my first Tele in 1994. I thought I would buy a white Les Paul with gold hardware. Played the tele and it fit just right! I took it home that day and now I am gassing for my third Tele (Cabronita)!

While my next guitar certainly will be a tele, I definitely don't think Tele is the "in style" instrument. I definitely would say that there is a mindset that Tele's are country guitars/bluegrass/etc. While that certainly isn't true, that's definitely the opinion I get when I chat with people at the guitar store.
Strats can do anything and everything; that's why they'll always be the ultimate "in style" instrument.
Ibanez and ESP are both really popular as well.

I just like the versatility of those guitars. I like the fact that they sort of look plain. That is the allure of Telecaster. When I think of Telecaster i think of Waylon Jennings or Joe Strummer (Both RIP)

Indie bands like it because it wasn't popular. Like Ray-Ban Wayfarers in the 1980s, the Tele is cool because it is uncool with the populace.

Every generation 'discovers' something that a previous generation once discarded.

I think it's due to the popularity of Teletubbies...

Wow, It seems like this thread has upset some Tele fans. Well its not that they have never been popular, or that they somehow died and went away. Its just they seem to be more popular now than ever.

Be happy!

I don't read anyone getting upset at all, and while I cannot speak for others, your post certainly does not upset me at all.

In your op, you made an assertion, based upon your anecdotal evidence - that the Telecaster is: “certainly the "in vogue" Fender guitar of the day.” And intimated that it has been re-discovered and adopted by a new generation. Then, later, you state that: “ it is more popular now than ever.” Also, in your op, you queried whether people agree or disagree with your assertion.

I simply disagree and think I've given reasons and some evidence to support that.

In the end, it's all opinion anyway.

But, whatever the case, the Telecaster is a great instrument and should remain so for the foreseeable future with past, current and future players !

You Be Happy too.. !!

cheers!

So you do not find that the Tele is no more or less popular than previously.

what an absurd argument considering nobody has inside sales or statistical information to support their point. I could say blue cars are gaining popularity lately, can you prove me wrong?
