Hi there

i recently purchased the Blues Jr iii Tweed chocolate sides and oxblood grill, with jenson speaker. I have changed bands from a rock band to blues, and have been using my old rig of a Mesa 50/50 stereo power amp and rocktron prophesy pre amp, run through a Randall XLT 4X12 CAB Vintage 30, Though i love the sound, i no longer wanted the hassle of moving that amout of gear.

I wanted to down size my rig, and felt the junior was best for me having tried a twin (too loud) blues deluxe (too loud).
The jumior sounded good in the shop, once i purchased it and got it to our rehersal space on the same day, it sounded terrible. i took it home, and it sounded not to bad in my kitchen, but again terrible in the small bedroom. Must be unable to move much air, The rehersal space is sound proofed some what, which is probably not helping matters, but the jenson speaker is very shrill and weedy sounding.

My Question is this, i am aware of the ability to use an external speaker with this amp, but was wondering if i could run it through my 4×12, as above, to see if the vintage 30′s would make a difference. My only concern is this cab runs either stereo 8ohm or 4/16ohm mono. Is it ok to run the blues junior through this, and if so what input pn the cab do i use?

Am i fighting a losing battle with this amp, it sound like a cheap basic practice amp, my pedals (maxon Vintage od9 and boss blues driver) sound like fizzy lifeless pedals. There is no depth to this amp, no sustain, totally lifeless. I really need a resolve as i just can't use this for band practice, let alone to gig. (which i am hoping to do, small venues).

thanks for any help you can give me,
kind regards

A Celestion Vintage 30 or G-12-T-75 could make the world of difference.I'm not familiar with the B.J. III but I know that extension speakers weren't recommended for my first series B.J. unless you unhooked the stock speaker and ran one of the same value, as running extra speakers could fry the output tubes and transformer.
I used my B.J. in a fairly large community hall with the stock Fender/Eminence speaker and even that sounded pretty full. There are also mods that you can do to the amp to give it more oomph, and they are available on the net, some of the guys in the amp section of the forum could tell you which sites are best.BTW if you ran your first question past the guys in the amplifier section of the forum you would get a more informative answer from Arjay or one of the other electronics gurus.

Hi There

Yeah i have posted in the amp section now, thanks for you help. The Jr iii has an external out which by passes the speaker in the junior. If i find it sounds better/fuller with the 4 x 12 i might then invest in a new 2 x 12 with better speakers, otherwise i will have to get store credit!

thanks again so much for your response, much appreciated
