I like John Mayer's music and respect his playing. He needs to go more flat out on his recordings to earn the Guitar Hero label. He needs his "Lost Your Good Thing Now," "Crossroads Blues" or "Texas Flood" or "Sweet Child of Mine." At this point, in his recordings, he's playing very understated like Lindsey Buckingham with Fleetwood Mac often does, supporting the song but not playing flat-out. Makes him a good guitar player, composer, and recording star, but not a Guitar Hero.

I am not saying that Gravity is on the same level as Crossroad Blues or Texas Flood but it is a amazing song with lots of great playing on it. My two cents...

The problem with Gravity-- well, I wouldn't consider it a problem-- is that its greatness is so subtle on the album, in a calm and collected way. And then it's epic live. People probably look up Gravity, hearing people say what an awesome guitar song it is, and find the album version, and then they proceed to misunderstand the hype. He goes absolutely nuts in the end when he plays it live. I've seen him several times live, and the end of that song ranks very high in my list of live experiences.
