Seriously, many of the poll topics tend to get repetitive. So I started a poll to see if Fender should disable polls.

Too many Fender Vs....., Strat Vs...., Telecaster Vs...., Which.......? polls make go crazy....Lets go to a Ford Mustang forum and ask if they prefer Mustangs or Camaros....

I kind of agree that polls get annoying at times.

Ironically, I was pondering posting this same poll (or, at least, something very similar to it) a bit earlier today. I see some cases where polls are leading to meaningful discussions but for the most part I'm seeing them primarily being used by newer arrivals to the forums trying to start conversations about topics that in many cases have already been discussed repeatedly. So ... I could go either way on this one personally.

How about they are disabled on a temporary basis? Say for instance 1 month?

For what it's worth, I don't think you'd be taking too much away by getting rid of the polls. New users still have the ability to ask whatever they wish by creating threads. The who likes what better questions will still be there, just in a thread instead of poll. And...if someone left because they couldn't create polls anymore, well that person wasn't here for Fender anyway.

If it's not contributing anything to the credibility or potential of these forums then by all means I think the option should be removed. I have yet to see one poll that has generated any useful information. In time, this may be the first. There are some great users signed up here with a lot of great experiences and knowledge to share. I for one would love see to this turn into an environment where those thoughts and ideas could be exchanged. Unfortunately sometimes there is a lot of useless information to sort through in order to get to anything of substance. The reputation of this community should reflect the reputation that Fender has worked so hard to build and earn. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be having fun. After all, we are a pack of Strat and Tele loving musicians. Let's make this a place that we want to come to and be proud of. That's my two cents. I'm gonna play my guitar now. Good night!

I enjoy the discussions that good polls bring but am also tired of the repetitive ones mentioned earlier. Is there any way to maybe block adding a poll until there is a search performed to see if it exists? That way we can keep polls for future good discussion and eliminate repeat polls. I don't know if it is possible (or practical) but it is just a suggestion.

i feel like the polls really dont add anything to this great forum. I think we will still get a fair amount of x verse y type threads, i think that is just unavoidable. But i put my x on the get rid of them option

I don't think the polls should be gone. What would happen if somebody actually came up with a good poll? Too bad, polls are gone.

So what if people are coming up with terrible polls, big deal, Hey, that's entertainment. Their not completely useless, they give us a good laugh every now and then. Plus something to $@!&* about.
