I don't like the way Teles feel, and I like how SG's feel--thus my vote.

But I've heard some great stuff played on each of them.

I'm actually the opposite in feel. I prefer the feel of a tele.

Yeah, me too. The neck is all wrong for me on an SG. It feels too fat and shallow. Almost classical guitar -esque to me. Of the five major classic guitar types (Strat, Tele, SG, ES-335, and LP) I already own an LP and Strat. I'd probably get an ES-335 next, followed by a Tele. SG would be last on my list.

Ironically, my bass of choice is the EB-03... aka SG Bass. I freakin' love that thing!

That said, SG wins hands down versus a Flying-V or Explorer. Yuck!

Leo Fender thought the Tele was obsoleted by the Strat. Gibson thought the LP was obsoleted by the SG.

I have rarely found a Gibson whose neck I didn't like.
But I'm fairly open to necks--there are only 2 types I don't like.
Hard V necks (like on the late 70's/early 80's Washburns) I don't like as the V point is where I put my thumb--and so it doesn't work. The other type was found on cheaper "superstrats in the early 90's--it was like a thin board with the corners slightly angled. They were cheap & easy to make--and felt like they'd snap in your hands.

I prefer a big chunky Gibson or 70's Ibanez neck, but I also love the small neck on my Mustang, and lots of necks in between.

SG here, once you get used to the feel it's absolutely the fastest neck out there (I have a 61 RI) and the classic '57 pups are amazing. But my SG is still #2 behind my strat.

Gotta agree with you there. I've got a reissue SG bass that's exactly what I wanted in a bass. However the bass neck is a lot thicker than the neck on my regular 61 RI.

They're both fantastic at what they do but the tele has a better all-round sound.

I own an SG but I presonally prefer Telecaster as I love the unique glittering sound of it.

I have an SG and a Tele FMT dual humbucker Tele. Granted a dual HB set neck tele is not a standard Tele, but compared side to side, I can get everything I get out of the SG from the Tele and more.

In an ideal world, I'd like both, but if it was one I'd have to opt for the SG. There's just something about the way they feel/sound that does it for me. I really am quite fond of Tele's though.

I like SG's. There easier to bend on and have better sustain.

I had a '72 Gibson SG. It was nice and all, but I prefer my Tele. It just seems more versatile and I just like the chunkier feel of the Tele. I'm not sure where the SG ended up as I have not owned it for about 10 years. Sold all of my stuff then to go have a crazy life adventure somewhere far, far away.

All that talk earlier about an SG with P-90's is making me curious aha!..... I wanna give one a whirl!..... I'm a big time strat fan..... but I have played a few good sg's that I loved..... they felt great to me and were very light.... I bet I'd like the tone better with some P-90's in there though,..... hmmmmm

Your kinda wrong there poorboy. The Les Paul was obsoleted. Completely. They stopped making it in favor of the SG in 1961. At first they called it a Les Paul but Les Paul sued and they started calling it the SG. The Les Paul as you know it wasn't reintroduced until 1968.

I like Stratocaster more than Telecasters.
I like SGs more than Les Pauls

I can't vote, they both are great guitars!
