Yes, its not entirely the soundmans fault, cause if you are rolling with too much amp, then its just a headache to the soundman. What many people fail to realize is that these days most guitar amps are mic'd through the PA, so gone are the days where the guitarist had to bring enough amps to fill a venue. 15-50watts tube should be more than enough for anyones needs these days with the guitar being mic'd through the PA. Its like I was explaining to a friend of mine who want to get some 300watt Randall head...Whats the point of having that much wattage? We don't play any venues that need that much wattage, and if by some miracle we had some sudden oppurtunity to play Ozzfest or some arena rock show, you still wouldn't need that much wattage because they will mic you through the PA.

What we ended up doing at my church was cutting the amps out all together. For the electric guitar and bass we used SansAmp pedals (GT2 and BassDriver, respectively). The drums were from the Roland V-series. Everything went through the PA and Monitors. Much more flexible for everyone. Not that I'm recommending everyone do this; it's great for a Church situation, though.

I know SansAmp pedals aren't tube amps... and nothing's better than a good tube amp. But, dang, SansAmp makes good stuff... and it really clears up some of the hassle.

I cant do that, i got to have an amp in front of me. I have stuck it in another room but i wont go direct!!

My last show was... interesting. The know-it-all sound guy didn't give me time to do a sound check because a girl had to sing the entire time.

So I guessed at the level.

For my first song, he kept telling the stage crew to turn down my amp. The crew, who needed my help plugging in XLR cables, didn't do it. After the first song, they told me to turn it down, so I did.

Listening to the recording, for the first song it sounds all right, other than the vocals... the guy had the bass and the treble maxed, and the mid at 0.

Frankly I have no idea why anyone would need a 100+ watt tube amp. Unless you're playing a stadium that is. Other then that it's a waste of money.

The PA system they usually use is like 300 watts to a 1,000 watts.
It's all right to play with a 100 watt amp. It's just that they will turn you down cuz of all the juice inside your amp is to much(I play with a 50 watt tube amp and don't have to turn it up all the way).

108 watts will bust your ear drums.I think the more watts the more power you got in your sound. At least it keeps the singers away from you.

The effect of 100w in a guitar's tube amp is much more volume than a 100w bass amp or 100w PA, also. For most live situations 100w guitar amp is just overkill.

But... fun... hehe

I think an ideal amp is a 30w tube amp - just enough for clubs and bars or some smaller outdoor gigs. Most of us don't play on stadiums, right?

I've got a 60w Peavy that does the job well. Maybe a little too loud at times, but not overly so.

I agree within you man, if you need stacks and stacks of Marshalls that go to 11, then get a 30 watt or so and put a mic in front of it!!

Yes, we read it. You don't seem to understand that when people don't respond to something you've posted, they're just being polite.
