George Harrison is best known as playing Gretsch and Fender guitars.

When The Beatles were starting their recording career, he was playing his Country Gentleman and Tennessean. A few years later he played Rocky, his Stratocaster, and as The Beatles came to a close, he played the infamous rosewood Telecaster.

Throughout his solo career he was often seen playing a Stratocaster, and his Gretsch Duo Jet from the Hamburg days made a return, even featured on the cover of Cloud Nine.

Has Fender or Gretsch ever issued a George Harrison tribute model?

I know Gretsch had a Travelling Wilburys Junior Jet in the late 80s/early 90s, but it wasn't really a Harrison model.

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I'd like to see a George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster, or a replica of Rocky.

The Fender Custom Shop does make Rosewood Telecasters very similar to George's. There are a few dealers out there that carry them, but they're all 'Masterbuilt', and they are NOT the 'Rosewood' Teles with the veneered sides.

If you can get a RI '60's Strat in Sonic Blue, you could always do your own 'Rocky' paint scheme. BTW, Harrison was also known for his 12-string Ricks, too, though he really didn't use them as much as you'd think (he had two, his second one was stolen).

I didn't think I needed to mention the Ricks... just like I didn't mention his Casino, SG, or Les Paul.

True. But he didn't hurt Rick sales any. Of course, this IS a Fender forum, silly me!

As much as George played the Gretsches and 2 Fenders, he also played a Gibson SG. The casino also played a big part of his and the beatles music as all three had casinos. Paul's and George's had bigsby's and Paul played his up side down. For John it became his number one guitar. Did you know that when they bought the Blue Strat for George, John also got one and they both used them on a few songs. All 3 covetted the blue strat, because that was the strat that Buddy Holly had on the cover of a song or two. You just coudn't get Fenders in England back in the early 60. If you could find one, they were too expesive to boot because of tarrifs

Yeah, I heard about it. Paul was the first one to get a Casino (note that his headstock is different than John's and George's) and the guitar is supposedly still one of his favorites. George would not likely have bought his Gretsch Duo Jet if he hadn't been 'beaten to the punch' in buying a used Strat in Hamburg in 1961. It wound up getting purchased for the guitarist in Rory Storm and the Hurricanes (who also had a drummer by the name of Richard Starkey, AKA Ringo Starr). It's in the book 'Beatles Gear' by Andy Babiuk (p. 52).

The rosewood Tele that he used on "Let It Be" was auctioned off a few years ago. I could see a GH signature model being produced in the future possibly. 8)

I don't think Buddy Holly ever played or posed with a blue Strat.

The truth of the Sonic Blue guitars that went to John and George is something like this:

The Beatles didn't even play those guitars before owning them. They sent Mal Evans out to buy a pair of Stratocasters, with the stipulation that they be in matching colors (thanks to some quaint ideas about the Beatles image, Brian Epstein would make any matching instruments a corporate purchase). So Mal went out for Strats, and found a shop with two matching blue ones. AS I understand it, John and George used them that week to play the direct-injected doubled lead on "Nowhere Man."

That would be awesome to get a George Harrison Sig guitars. I would love to see the traveling wilburys guitar again too.

That would be awesome if they made a Gretsch George Harrison, and even cooler if it was affordable to every guitarist (like an electromatic)

He is one of the main reasons I have a Gretsch (Him and Brian Setzer)

I wish George was still around...we miss ya buddy...

I was pretty young when John was killed, but it had such a profound effect on me. Somehow, I gravitated towards George Harrison more than the others as he was really doing something different with his music and his life whereas Ringo and Paul were still riding the Beatles money train.

It seems like they could almost make a signature line for GH, not just one model. That would be great to hit multiple price ranges with multiple models. That way everybody could have at least a piece of the series.

I got a Sweetwater advert in the mail today... it's not a signature model, but it's about as close as you can get:

http://www.fender.com/customshop/instru ... 0150067821

[The URL Sweetwater put in the flier didn't work...]

The page there says through December 31 2007, but this is the first I've seen them. Sweetwater price... $4199

Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrosse, WI has similar models. Check out their website. They're a big Fender Custom Shop dealer.
