My son... he was never much into any sports, but has always been into music. So... I picked up a guitar so we could enjoy music together.

My granddad is a great guitarist. He really inspired me to play and taught me a few bits.

Yup, this thread was done before Oh well.

Les Paul had a 5-minute piece years ago in Chitown before the 6 PM news. He played 2 songs per day.

Then came The Ventures and realization; melodic guitar could be a whole life-playing style.

First live performance I ever went to see was Andre Segovia at the Newport Jazz Festival that got me interested. Past that all the usual suspects.

Jimi Hedrix
Billy F. Gibbons
Eric Clapton
Carlo Santana
Etc.

My dad got in to it and taught me how to play the basics, after that i listened to fleetwood mac - rumors, dire straights - brothers in arms, mike oldfield - moonlight shadow, pink floyd, jimi hendrix, billy corgan - all pumpkins, iron maiden - most of their stuff, G'N'R, nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, janes addiction - all grunge sound and i ain't stopping now!

A teacher called Andy when I was studying in London as an exchange student. I still remember he was playing a Take That tune with his acoustic guitar which inspired me to pick up guitar eventually. :)

I think it was my mom's acoustic guitar hanging on the wall that inspired me.[/list]

As I said before--I don't know--as long as I can remember I've wanted to play the guitar--I don't remember why.
