Just like everyone else, the first thing I'll say is HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D

Enjoying it? Getting old isn't that bad, you're treated like avintage artifact, as are Strats. Although I can't say much, I'm only 12.

Rock n' Roll ain't dead, you just have to look for it. (and I don't mean that schlock rock crap, I mean real rock n' roll.) There are plenty of bands out there playing it, take some time to look outside of the places the industry pushes.

Happy B-day, man!

D

I agree with TheKingOfPain on this one. There's good new stuff out there and you'd be surprised at how many current bands are keeping things alive old school style. One of my favorite bands is The Black Keys. They just came out with a new CD that I love. I was listening to it last night and totally feeling it. It's called "Attack & Release". It's a two piece band--guitar and drums--but they bring it down everytime.

Also, check out Pandora.com. It's a great way to find all kinds of new (good) music.

I feel you. I am turning 40 this year. But I look around and still realize that I am younger at heart and in spirit than many of my friends that are ten years or more behind me. And, it seems you are able to take stock in what you have. That is important and something that most are not capable of.

Have a Happy Birthday. Play your guitar and hug your wife--or vice versa. And just enjoy it!

Peace!

If you were born in '66 and are 42 then I guess I'm 40 (being born in'68). The other day I thought I was 38... hmmm. And your right about bargain music... to think I use to laugh at that bin... now it's why I go to the store.

I have teenage kids and friends who are grandparents.

most of the music I love is in the clearance bins at the mega stores.

Happy Birthday. I'll be 47 this year, and have 2 adult kids as well as an 11 year old. My daughter is getting married in June.

It's really not that bad. The alternative to getting older is much worse.

Now imagine being a teen and feeling the same way, it gets unbearable to think that 'real' music died before you were born

Happy birthday :D

Thus our need to keep our youngsters jammin' to the classics. (not OLDIES)

+1

I just transferred ALL of my vinyl to my kid. Well, except those that I simply couldn't part with. But what's even nicer, is having Her call periodically comparing the music she's hearing today to what she's discovering on LP's. It's like reliving your youth all over again. I'm new here, Happy B-day!

Don't get me wrong all you guys, I know there's great rock 'n' roll out there. It's just that rock is roughly 60 years old and more or less destroyed by mainstream media and capitalistic record companys. Now give music 40-50 years more in that direction and I'm afraid we have a scenario similar to the 'We Will Rock You' musical (playing music is illegal, it has to be programmed and feature a lot of Ga Ga girls, and every bohemian artist is haunted and put in jail. so the bohemians find the 'tools of rock' and revive music, it's basically an extreme version of todays charts)
It's that, when I get old, my children will hear me say 'that song I just loved' about the same songs as people nowadays remember from their youth

You still have a long road to "Geezerville" The music we play is also our "fountain of youth". It can keep getting better. Happy B-day and rock on. .

Happy Birthday! Age ain't nuthin' but a number, and old age ain't nuthin' but a state of mind, if you're lucky. I'm over 40, so I should know.

Happy Birthday. Hope you have had a great day. I turned 36 back on April 3rd. What a drag it is getting old. 8)

I don't think that it's a drag for me to get old at all, as long as it's on my own terms.

Yeah... I kind of had the same realization at 35. I just woke up and realized I'm no kid again. I mean I like to go to bars play music and hangout but I have a job, kids and a morgage...

I does suck to get old.

Well bro I got 10 years on ya; at 42 I was still active duty (USAF) had my EC Strat and my 1981 model X100 Carvin amp I bought sight unseen.
A lot has changed in my life since then; ret. from the service, moved 3 times, worked at 7 (the average for a VET) jobs; went to school and got a degree I don't use.
I have managed to get my own home, buy a few guitars and amps, find a new wife, and learned much about myself and life.
I have 2 sons as well of whom I am most proud.
Technically I'll be 52 this fall.
Great music is where you find it.
Now that there's no longer a need for record companies new music is going to be much like those public access channels on TV because it's so cheap and easy to put music on the internet.
Great music will always be out there; just look for it!
Happy Birthday !
