I'm interested in what people think of these too!

I have a Baby Orange Practice Amp and it works well enough, especially at it's price point.

But, someday I'm gonna get a 'Big Boy' amp and value the opinions of those more knowledgeable and experienced than I.

cheers!

Another small practice amp (the 3" speaker model) owner. Construction (made in China) is reasonable for the price and the sound was quite impressive given the size. It has a built in distortion option -- I don't use that but it was credible when I tried it. There's also a build in tuner. Overall, given the size and weight along with sound quality, I've been happy with it. Toss in suitcase and off it goes.

Unfortunately though, I haven't heard any of the larger models in live setting, so I can't say about that. I have been considering a potential replacement of my Band Master VM and a roughly comparable Orange would be on the short list of candidates.

i'm looking at the #4 jim root model and matching 2x12 cab. says 15 watts. ?????????????? i have a 100 watt peavey and a 60 watt blackstar. both 2x12. i've heard and read about lower watts producing huge sound but i'm one of those "bigger is better" folks. i do not need another amp. my fear is that i will try one out and put it on lay-away. i know me.
someone please tell me these amps suck and i don't need to waste my hard earned cash. i made my last truck payment last month. i paid the bike off earlier this year. i have a little more cash these days. after hearing the new stonesour cd i started looking at jim's gear. i blame jim.

I have zero experience with smaller amps from Orange and I also have no experience with any big rigs they might make but I've tried a couple of normal sized ones. One was a 50 watt 1x12 with a pair of EL34s. The other was a 30 watt 2x12 with quad EL84s. They both seemed to have a slightly bigger, airier, more open sound to them than other amps. I would say they possibly have less compression than many similar amps, have slightly hairier gain and seem loud for their size but I think that's a function of the lower compression leading to the illusion of more sound pressure. Or maybe they just use very efficient speakers. I'm pretty sure the 2x12 used V30s and they're fairly efficient. Smooth is not a word that comes to mind when I think of these amps. Maybe raw and unpolished are better words. As always, tone is subjective and one man's pleasure can be another man's torture. When I tried Orange amps I wasn't blown away but I wasn't repulsed, either. They leave you with the impression that they are more powerful and also dirtier than other amps. That's about all I can remember other than they didn't call my name.

jeebus, my limited experience is all good. Big amps, very heavy, can hold their own with Marshall and Mesa Boogie. Maybe a class of it's own. I like the Tiny Terror 1000 bass head, 4 ohm-8 ohm switch, daisy chain 4 or 5 of those little devils and you can do a Blue Cheer tribute band

Don't underestimate lower wattage amps. I know nothing about Orange amps, but I can tell you first hand the 5 watt Marshall Class 5 head with a 2x12 or 4x12 at half volume will get on your neighbors nerves. So much so that I just bought a Marshall JCM-1H and it's my new go to bedroom amp now.

The only exp I have with Orange amps is the Tiny Terror and it is a awsome little amp head. I does give you big sound and can get loud.

I've never played one but I agree with Toronado, The orange cabinetry doesn't turn me on either. As for the aforemetioned H&K amps, those DO turn me on. I've been drooling over the TubeMiester 18 as a possible Xmas present to myself! I like the idea of a powersoak feature since I mostly play at home. Add to that the effects loop, a standby switch, and the awesome blue lighting and it seems like a nice low wattage amp. Anyone ever try one of these? Can't find one in the local shops around here. Sorry too for the hijack!

Yah, that's enough all by itself to squash any ideas I might ever have of buying one. They're freakin' hideous, IMO. I think you'd hafta be a whipper-snapper to think that looks good.

IIRC, each one I've seen online could also be ordered with just a Black Tolex cab. Not certain it applies across their entire range, but the ones I've seen gave this option.
