hmmmm, does that mean I'll be as good as you at 20???

I wouldn't doubt it. :) Just practice whenever you get the chance and anytime you get the opportunity to play live with a band, do it.

That was really fun to watch.
All I can say about the monitor issue is this.. Get used to it. Unfortunately, it's par for the course these days. Good sound guys are becoming more of a rarity these days. I personally have gone through this many times, even at big shows. Listen to the snare and kick of the drums and tilt your amp is about all you can do. Sometimes, it also helps to place the amp in front of the stage pointed at you so you can stand by the drummer and hear that snare and kick. Always remember one thing, you can't control the sound guys. But you can control how you want to hear yourself. They're gonna mic it anyway. Place and point that amp wherever you want. If you had to walk over and turn an amp toward you, then do it. If their monitor isn't working for you, then move their amp. Had I been a judge, I would have seen that as a sign of professionalism.

I used to do competitions years ago in the early '90's. Never won anything of any significance. I always let the pressure get to me. It's not until you learn to divert that pressure that you will truly perform your best at bigger shows. In this case, you're competing with art. Paint your picture and walk away. Once you treat it like a sporting event, you're in the wrong frame of mind.

My personal advice to you right now would be to not worry about competitions. You have proven your point. You can achieve what you set your mind to. I would say drop the competing, keep writing, practicing, and speak with that guitar to your fans. You opened a big door with this competition. Don't try to open it further, just walk through it, be who you are, and take the opportunities as they come.

You have a big career ahead of you. You have the skills.

The only critique I'm gonna give as something to work on, is getting sustain out of your guitar. Your notes were fading on you. Whether it was the guitar, amp, pickups, whatever the case may be, you needed to be able to hold some notes longer. Had that been the case, I think you would have had a smoother performance all around. When your notes die on you too early, you feel like you have to compensate for that and you may find yourself rushing or getting flustered and trying to make up for it.

Regardless, you did a great job, and you should hold your head up.

my apologies Becks, took me awhile to check out your vids, I can only say don't fret, or sweat about your performances, they were both way above par and you've certainly have the ability to make a big dent in the American Blues scene...your day will come and as I'm sure you know by now all of us who visit this forum and have had the pleasure of watching you grow are pretty proud of you....keep on listening and playing it suites you well

I couldn't agree more, and that was by far one of my biggest problems with my performance. I've honestly never played a live show where I've had that little sustain. I had my usual rig, so I'm not really sure what was going on. It really would've helped if I had just turned the amp up all the way instead of trying to be all polite. Other than that, I don't know. But if I'm ever in a similar situation again with the back line, I'm going to pay particular attention to it.
