Never let people discourage you from your goals in life. You can attain anything you set your mind to. Congratulations on a good performance. Now go out knock em off their feet.

TGS,

I wish I could play at your "subpar" level. :) You did good. Don't be that hard on yourself. You are very talented, and I rather like your style and tone. I cannot wait to see/hear your performances at the next Battle of the Blues or any other clips you wish to share with us. Keep it up, absolutely awesome. Patiently waiting for your next album. Your EP sounds great in the car, but wanting more TGS Blues.

Texas, thanks for posting! The Battle of the Blues Vid is excellent! I can see why some less seasoned members of the guitar boys club might feel a little less confident, you remind me of Bonnie when she was just starting at about your age. The other vid's cool who told the bass player he could hot dog for 8 bars, just kidding it sounded good, and
"can't you see", southern slayer, perfect as a picture. 8)

Hi Rebecca what can I say, on the floor now and gimme ten, your performance lacked the quality required for a competition of this magnitude, your a disgrace to this competition and to our fabulous sponsers Guitar Centre, Egnator etc etc.........just a few things you could have let rip at the soundguy after stopping the show seconds into your opening number :) , you probably played those songs in your head the day's, weeks and months before the gig getting everything perfect never thinking some soundguy would throw a spanner in the works  seems it wasn't very well run, got to say though I enjoyed your playing although I've got to agree the soundcloud clip you posted sounds streets ahead, maybe guitar centre will realize they will have to up the ante for next year and give the players a bit more freedom to set things up to get the best out of them, great you got more exposure though and more gigs out of it, it's all good Rebecca even the downsides have a silver linning plus the prizes for winning the heats eh, next year could be your time Rebecca you playing is the bee's knees and next time you'll be more relaxed....just got to work on your guitar face :) ....everyone's got one :)

also am I right in thinking the guy in his bare feet won it, if so, a golden opportunity went out the window right there, some strategia.. strateege....stratie..carefull placement of a few drawing pins  you know what I mean

Very good. Keep the guitar face, it's good too.

Checked it out again: Love the resolving jazz influence, combined with the classic blues phrasing.

Nailed it. - Next time, take own sound guy. It'll give you extra confidence when facing Joe & The Judges (sounds like a 60's soul combo). Although to be honest I'd rather listen to you for an evening than to Bonamassa, you played plenty of interesting lines, and I really dug the surf vibe you put on to it.
Waiting for the long player, and quite frankly for Fender to pull it out and work out some endorsements.

Cheers-

Nutter

Rebecca it was nice to be able to hear what you were playing clearly. Shame the sound guy couldn't have done a better job. Going first or last in any competition can be a blessing or a curse. Sucks when the sound guy uses the opening act for a sound check. Been there... :? You handled it well.

Persevere young lady one day others will be the opener for you...best wishes.

Thanks guys, I've got to admit reading everyone's comments has put a smile on my face. :D Kind of reminds me on when I first joined the Fender Lounge and was here licking my wounds from the first King of the Blues when I was 16. Actually, back then that thread definitely helped me put a positive spin on it and learn from the experience. I'll probably end up looking back on this year as much the same thing.

Both performances (electric & acoustic) were great! Congrats on all your accomplishments. Your weekly performances are keeping you pretty busy, and you still make time to get out to the open jam at The Big Easy! That's lovin' the blues! I'm gonna try and make it out there next Wed. Hope to see ya.

Awesome, say hi to John Richardson for me if you make it out there! :) I think I have band practice this Wednesday, but I always try to make it to the Houston Blues Society Jam at the Big Easy every last Thursday of the month.

Your playing on a bad day is still pretty damn good. I'm not just being polite. That really wasn't bad and under the circumstances you demonstrated professionalism and maturity. I'm f'n proud of you.

How's Houston? I grew up there but it's been several years since I've been out that way.

Cheers,

Houston's growing like crazy, and the music scene is too. You don't really think of Houston as a city that's as steeped in music as Austin or Memphis, because I think it's more under the radar than in those cities. But it's here, especially the blues scene. I just saw an awesome flamenco group play at a place about two minutes from my house yesterday, so it's all kinds of music too. :)

WOW! From the total beginner perspective, that was beyond great! Despite all the hurdles you had and the wise and wonderful JB judging you. If you come up Waxahachie/DFW way, holler. Will definately try to make it to see you live.

Will do! I haven't been up that way for about a year now, but at the rate my band has been getting gigs I wouldn't doubt that I'd find myself up there sometime soon.

For someone like me - at the bottom of the Learning Curve looking up, your playing sounds great !

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been playing? How did you learn (Private Lessons, School Band, Videos, etc.), your approx. age (I know you're not supposed to ask a woman, but believe there's an exception for women guitar players) ?

I think you showed alot of poise up on stage and despite technical difficulties, gave a pretty good account of yourself !

Well done you.. !!

cheers!

I've been playing just over seven years. I was 13 when I started, so I'm 20 now. In fact, I won the Regional Finals which qualified me to go to L.A. on my 20th birthday! I started teaching myself for about the first year I played, after I didn't take to it well with my first guitar teach. She wanted me to play chords and sing along with campfire songs, and I really just wanted to play lead guitar like Jimmy Page! (Chords turned out to be important after all...) I've been taking lessons for about the last six years though, from a few different people. And for the last year or two I've also been teaching lessons, although I was just a substitute teacher until recently. Now I actually have five or six students, which is really cool.
