He looks funky And I've never seen a guitar like that.

His looks are basically a throw back to the 80's 'big hair' days and fancy dress (spandex/leather pants) style. He intentionally wears the frills to show his correspondence with the classical stylings he learned from and uses (Bach et al).

He is almost strictly Fender Stratocaster. But he uses a scalloped fretboard (which he did himself originally).

*** Aside not directed to Fender Strat! ***
I can respect those who don't like his musical or playing style. But I'm not so sure why he's "ghey" (is that some Euro-trash spelling). He's married with children, has more money than you (general), and has more talent than you (general). Sometimes we envy that which we can never attain......

I was fortunate to see an awesome concert back in the 80's with Yngwie and Alcatrazz. A band named Talas with Billy Sheehan on bass guitar opened for them. What a show!!! Ever since then, I have been a fan of YJM. Who cares what he wears, I was too busy watching his blazing hands to notice what he wore. Who else can do the things on guitar like he can? I see influences of Blackmore, Uli Jon Roth, and Paganinni in his playing. You don't have to like the guy to appreciate his talent.

I redouble my advice to Yngwie to lose weight. Just watched the G3 2003 DVD (I missed this as it was filmed here in Denver - darn!!!). Boy is the man too big for his britches (or leather spandex). But he was still playing amazingly, swinging the guitar around his neck, and sweating like a, well, won't say. ;)

For the youngin's who think Yngwie is weird or doesn't play well - remember that he's been around since the late 70's (starting with Alcatrazz). Satriani is 52 (!) and he could ground just about every player here (including me) into the ground playing with one finger. And there's still Golem-like Eddie. Not only great guitarists but they have withstood the test of time - can't say that for most of the younger guitarists out there.

I also saw Yngwie when he was in the Alcatrazz band with Graham Bonnet.

I love the first bunch of albums he played on.

Then it all got to be a bit "same old, same old."

Now I will buy his CDs only if I can get them used and really cheap.
