So yesterday I broke my left thumb really bad. I'm in a cast for at least 8 weeks, and might need surgery in the upcoming days. Being that I'm left-handed I can't really do a whole lot.
Anything you guys can think of to help pass the time?

Im so very very sorry! I hope it heals quickly and just perfectly! If you can write with your other hand the only idea I have is to write out and tab some songs you never played for down the road..I would also go youtube blind looking up all kinds of gems and taking a listen down memory lane. Good thoughts your way sir!

I'm very sorry to hear about that, it really sounds awful! Get well soon. And you can always use the time to listen to new music or maybe write lyrics.

As someone who has broken their left hand before: Grip with the index and middle, and don't do anything strenuous right after getting out of the cast. I assure you, your hand will fell like jello.

So Sorry this happened to you... but it did.

If you are 35+ best advice is NOT to rush your recovery !

Our hands are very intricate things... if not, the Monkeys would have taken over long ago !!

Try and rush the recovery and you can create problems which can haunt you into your 60s, 70s and 80s.. !!

Missing a couple months of Guitar playing now isn't worth all that...

Besides, it's a good time to concentrate on writing, strumming and picking which will only make you better on the back end !!

Good Luck !!

cheers!

Painting, drawing, writting etc. All that stuff related to the arts.

Hey, I haven't been able to play for almost 10 weeks. You'll get through it

How is your thumb now? Shattered my left shoulder in a fall a little over 3 weeks ago and remembered your injury. I've been taking it easy mostly, going to doctor (orthopedic team) appointments and doing the things the doc has told me to do. It is going to be awhile for healing. Hope your thumb is doing better.

I can sympathize. I had trigger finger in my right ring finger (I play exclusively fingerstyle). The finger would painfully lock and more painfully unlock when straightened. I tried playing with a splint but eventually had to rest it for a few weeks and with a cortisone shot right into the joint, it now seems much better.

Work on your right hand technique in the meantime!

Cheers,

That's a bummer dude, hope you feel better soon.
Read a book, I heard "World War Z" is a great read.
Or pick up a the seasons of "Walking Dead", "Sons of Anarchy",
"Breaking Bad". All great shows, will keep your mind off playing guitar.
Also what everyone else has recomended are all great ideas too.

Cheers,

I know what you mean, I have dequervian's tendinitis to my right wrist,
So I'm always in pain to my distal radial area. I need a cortisone shot,
but medical personell make the worst patients,
