Absolutely there should be an age limit!

No one should be allowed who is too young to know how to get on the site and no one too old to remember what a guitar looks like.

Age restrictions should not be brought into play at all. This Forum is for those that are fans of Fender and gives us a chance to talk to one another and share our views on all things Fender.
If we restrict who can come on here we are taking away those who may gain the most from being part of this forum.

There are a few whose mental maturity is not as advanced as it should be for someone their age. Those are the ones that need our help the most.

Mental Maturity has nothing to do with the ability to play guitar.

No! I don't think there should be an age limit. I started with music when I was about 8 years old with piano lessons (I still have bruises from that old nun pulling my fingers up with a ruler, for the proper placement of fingers over the piano keys). Yes, I was young at that time, not really mature, but I loved music all the same and I could always mature later, as the numbers went up in my age. Then.......later, I took an interest in rock bands, and became a drummer in rock bands, taking lessons, etc. I was 15 at the time and not, in my opinion, what I would be considered as mature (at the adult level). Still I loved music and would've loved to have had a forum to learn from, such as this.

I guess what I'm saying, is that for the young ones, that may seem immature to us adults, maybe we should cut them a little slack, understand where they are coming from..... As long as they are not offensive, abusive and such, I think this is a great place for them to get all their music questions answered. I know that this place (as short a time as I've been coming here) has been a wealth of information to me. I don't we should cut that off for someone because of age.

No! I do not think there should be an age restriction. If a topic may not be to your liking, or perhaps a thread is introduced by someone who may be irritating to you....Well..I guess that thread could always be bypassed. Much better that way, in my opinion, to cut off the valuable resource of information to someone just because of age. Heck.....there are adults that can be irritating. (ok....getting ready to be flamed)

But on the topic, I don't think there should be, because I myself would be directly affected.

These kids enjoy Fender as much as we adults do. Fender is for everybody.
If there was a vote for an age limit I would definitely vote no.

I don't think an age limit should be imposed. I'm a teenager myself, and I guess I can sympathize with those who are even a bit younger than me.

However, something MUST be done about the repetition on this site. I know it tends to be younger guys doing the repeat posting, but it's not only them. It's bringing the site down and making it a little difficult for me to deal with, sifting through the repeat threads. I know I don't have to look at them if I don't want to see them, but it's to the point where it obstructs me in looking for other threads.

I don't know why, but it's much worse in this community than any other online communities I'm a part of. I think part of the solution starts within ourselves. I always see people post, "well this thread has been made a million times, but I'll respond anyways. The best guitarist is.... " Instead of responding to something you know has been posted, all it takes is one person to link the thread poster to the thread that already exists. But I think it also takes more than that. I know on some forums they merge threads of similar topics. Maybe we could start doing that? And in the registration process we should add something that emphasizes heavily the importance of searching.

Sorry for the rant, but I like this community, so I decided to highlight one of the negative aspects of it in an attempt to make it better. I think the annoying threads are closely related to the topic in this thread, so maybe if we could make changes that would eliminate all the repetition, things would flow more smoothly in here.

I think the answer there is that this is one of the fastest-growing guitar-related discussion communities I've ever seen. Even the most seasoned individuals here have been here less than a year -- because these forums didn't exist a year ago. Hence I think the ratio of new, inquisitive folks to seasoned old-timers is far greater here than you'll see on other more 'seasoned' forums. I think that ratio will improve over time.

Hey look its Mr. Mature himself....

im sorry if i upset you......

No hard feelings taken.
And if I was immature I wouldnt play guitar so well.

Any look to the past will show that maturity and the ability to play the guitar have absolutely nothing to do with each other. There's plenty of immature guitar players out there.

As far as an age limit, I'm against it. Fender's customers come from all age groups and this is their board too. If someone becomes a problem, someone of any age, the regulars can try to remedy the situation. If it can't be fixed, Brad can ban the person and that should be the very last resort.
