Really Really sorry..I can just imagine the feeling when you heard it hit the ground..I know I would have uttered some extremely unladylike words! I hope the luthier does a great job for you!

That would probably be my reaction if this would have happened to my guitar, except I would be holding the guitar instead of the knee. :)

+1

cheers :D

That sucks. Hope you manage to get her back into fighting trim. Locking straps are definitely the way to go. I use Schaller's but there are definitely better one's out there.

That's why it's good I play P basses. My current back up bass took a nasty spill thanks to a careless singer. Nickel sized dent in the side and lost some finish, but otherwise no damage. I had a guitarist knock over a PA speaker from about 5 feet in the air on a stand on an old MIM Big Block P I had about 7 years ago. (no pickguard) Put a nasty ding in the face of it right between the A and D strings, and cracked the paint so bad it was spider-webbed like a cracked windshield. Shame as it was such a pretty thing. On the plus side it didn't even knock it out of tune. :?

I liked ted j's suggestion. Take something bad and turn it into something good. "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

I feel your pain. I dropped my tuner on my new Squier CV 50's last week and it left a crater on the front of it. Damage not as bad as what has happened to your instrument, but damage is damage to me. Reality is it's a minor ding, hardly noticable. Fantasy stuck in my head is it looks like the Great Wall of China as viewed from space.

No matter how good the strap and even with strap locks,I don't leave anything to chance and always make sure that at least one hand has a good hold on my guitars.I've seen too many guys proven wrong after figuring that the strap and or locks are fail-proof.

Did it come off in one big section or little shards? If it's one big section perhaps you could re-attach it.

So sorry that happened. Hope it can be rescued.

I did the same thing back in the 80's with one of my guitars. Since then every Electric I have owned has had strap locks. That is the very firs mod I do to any guitar I own.

ozrv , I said ouch too when I saw the photo's. It should be fine when you get it back from the luthier. Beautiful guitar even with the battle scar. Sending Chicago mojo your way for good measure.

Sorry to see what happened. A decent repairman should be able to help with the playability. The body repair is a tough one.

Sorry it happened to your nice guitar. As oneal jane suggested, you might be able to super glue the chips back on, and then fill in the cracks with nail polish that matches the color, then knock down the nail polish with a light polishing compound to the same height as the original surface. It won't be perfect, but easier to live with.

Looks like a prity good hit, I dropped my brand new Tele a couple of years ago and knocked a hole in it the size of a pee. Some good natured fellow responded by saying guitars are like trucks, They're not worth a damn untill they get a fue dents in them. Somehow I couldn't see the humor in it and still cant. Don't feel to bad, S#i$ happens.

My heart hurt when i saw the photo... and I'm feelin' for ya.
(moment of silence)
here are a few items that'll maybe take some of the heat off -
My acoustic (on the left) - dropped the timing cover and water pump assembly from my 351 on it one morning:

Frank Zappa holding Jimi's guitar formerly used as a burnt offering

Willy Nelson's 6 string...

And Andy Summers' Telecaster:

And, guess what - they all still work!
Marshfield MOJO headed your way my friend!
