Ufff! Sorry about the guitar, I hope that this .gif picture of Peter Griffin brightens your day a little bit:

That would probably be my reaction if this would have happened to my guitar, except I would be holding the guitar instead of the knee. :)

Ouch!! O! :x I've had one slip off of my strap before but, I was playing and grabbed it by the neck as it fell. It can and will play again. Just needs a little TLC (another setup) and some recovery time. Those 80's poly finishes were pretty thick. I wish I could give you some advice as far as cosmetic repairs are concerned but there are others more experienced with these types of fixes. Short of refinishing most likely you can only seal the edges of the break in the finish to keep it from chipping further. On the bright side it looks like a nice piece of ash under the finish.

Just a thought
Why don't you fill it and burst the edges with maroon sparkle

OUCH!!!

Been there, done that, a long time ago with an old "SG copy" type of guitar. Somehow it popped off the strap, and I couldn't catch it in time. WHAM!!! If I remember right, it landed on the hard floor on the edge of the body, $*&@ing up the body and worse - - I held onto the neck, but I must have turned or twisted or something at the exact moment. That caused the set neck also to get $*#&ed up, as the guitar was never the same. The intonation of the low "E" and "A" strings was never right. The guitar played sharp on the upper frets on the low "E" and "A" strings.

That's one reason I have been using Locking Guitar Straps since the mid 90s - never have to worry about losing a guitar!

I feel your pain... though not like YOU do, I'm sure.

I'm so onboard with that idea from today onwards, it's not any easier to digest the morning after... :( ..... Thank god I wasn't playing the LP or I'd be looking at a snapped neck .... It's going straight to the luthiers today....

I just got the last strap locks I had onto my Strat just last week. They can be a little bit of a pain but worth the trouble.

+1000...I have strap locks on all my strats. In fact each Strat has a strap I only use with it, like it's made for that particular one, but for a measley 12-15 bucks, get yourself some! Pretty bad whack there, looks like your well on your way to a "natural" relic job.

A very sad story, and sadder looking photos. I actually had the body side of a strap come out once/tore through. The only thing that kept it from hitting the floor was that I pulled up on the neck as I grabbed it and the body swung in an arc into our drummer's cymbal stand! Not quite the same but just proves that you can't pay "too" much attention to the strap and strap pins.

I've been using Planet Waves and J Garcia straps, seem durable and great colors. EVERY guitar/bass I have has Dunlop Dual Design strap locks installed and their own strap.

Good luck with your repairs.
