@ strings: You did post all that relevant info previously. Must not be paying close attention. Have a friend in Bayshore I need to get back to. He's closer to Deer Park than the coast. Not too badly affected.
@ nonni: I'm still untwisting my tongue trying to pronounce the name of that volcano. Hekla's a lot lighter on the the tongue but a lot meaner in personality. We'll keep our mojo out for you on that one. Your volcanoes have a way of tying up the entire planet. BTW: after I've dispensed with France and Italy and the distaff side finds that she has nothing left to gripe about as far as where she hasn't been yet, I'm hoping to pay you a visit.

Our Kemah Boardwalk, and anything along the seawall in Galveston (including the Balinese Room of ZZ Top fame) was completely destroyed in hurricane Ike a few years ago. After seeing everything taken down to concrete slabs and twisted piles of timber, I thought it would take a very long time for anything to get back to anywhere near normal. Kemah reopened after a little more than a year after the storm, and most things on the Galveston seawall were rebuilt bigger and better by the next summer. Looking back, I think we might have been a little bit more prepared for Ike than people were for Sandy. But we're used to dealing with big storms like that, and the people up there really weren't. But I think we're all going to be surprised by how soon things will bounce back and be better than ever. The one good thing about hurricanes (and it's really hard to find anything good about them), is that they always seem to make everyone pull together and get them determined to make a change for the better.
