If any of you are in the NE Coast area, I hope things go better for you, than what they are anticipating. Get yourself ready in case Sandy does impact your area. Best of luck guys.

I'm in virginia beach, VA... just south of where they expect it to get really bad, but we're still looking at sustained 60 mph winds and rain for days... so we're taking precautions too. Our big danger will be flooding, moreso than the winds. Up north, you guys are really in for it, so please take this storm seriously, and prepare the best you can. Evacuate if they suggest it in your area... don't think it's worth trying to "ride it out". That storm will win. Be safe... :( (There isn't really a smiley for "concerned", so he'll have to do.)

Unless you live right on the coast (or in a mud hut), don't worry too much about it. We get category 1 storms on the gulf coast all the time, and it's really not that bad. Of course, we're used to it like ya'll are used to snow. We close the schools at the mere threat of a little frost, and last time the roads iced over we had 500+ minor car wrecks in the Houston area in a single day. So I can understand the hysteria I see on the news.

I don't know, I may have to eat my words later, but I think this one isn't going to be as big of a deal as everyone's making it out to be. Remember how crazy everyone went the last time a storm like this hit the east coast? But then, better safe than sorry.

After having lived on an island 14 miles off the NE coast for many years, I wouldn't be as concerned with this storm. It's not a full fledged hurricane and does not have the concentrated energy center, with the way the satellite are displaying the storm and it's various surrounding weather patterns I expect it to be pulled apart to a lesser coastal storm by the time it arrives in R.I. / CT.......

It would be great if the meteorologists would call it as they see it and stop describing each and every storm as a potential apocalypse.....
Will there be some flooding.... :?: Yes in some area's
Will there be high winds....... :?: Yes and No.....I don't consider 60 to 75 mph winds as drastic.
On Cape Cod, Nantucket and Block Island, those wind velocities are just typical winter conditions..... :?

you have a good point they are trying to keep you on there chanel.

but here in rhode island a snow storm that they made nothing of and turned bad in 1978 and again a few years back has the local weather men on edge so they play it safe and say its dooms day every time it rains.

on top of that here every time the first drop of rain falls its accidents all over the freeway.. im sure part of it is texting in a rain storm but people cant drive good any more

It's still misleading reporting, however 78 snowstorm was very different, the variables of which
were full winter mode, primitive weather ( wether or not  ) reporting.

The amount of accidents ( which aren't accidents since most are self induced ) are due to people driving way beyond their cars capabilities and their own capabilities in cars that are not maintained, tires that are usually well past the point of replacement...we could go on but it's rather pointless.
Everyday I drive into Providence and I'm always amazed at the number of cars that are not roadworthy..

I'm 250 miles inland in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Will get plenty of wind & rain. Hopefully not too much of each. :|

We heard that Connecticut may get the worst of it, but these things
can change track in a heartbeat - stay safe to all!

Mrs.E and I are in hunker mode, supplies in and fingers crossed. Here in NY metro area wind is the biggest concern as falling limbs tangle power lines causing loss of service as well as roof/window damage.
Be safe,
John.E

If it goes my way it will be downgraded from Hurricane to a storm. But best of luck to anyone in the path. Be safe.

I'm in NJ, the bulls eye for this one, and the only good thing about this so far is the ground is kinda dry. My house is surrounded by big old oaks and maples so the wind is always a concern. I have made some preps and will continue to do so as I see fit. My main concerns are trees falling on the house and power outages. No power, no pumping water out of the basement. All guitars are upstairs and amps are 6 inches off the floor. We'd need a lot of water influx to worry me about them.

Hope everyone stays safe.
I kinda wish victoria had extreme storms like a cyclone (hurricane, as most of you will call them). I dunno why :?

My thoughts and Prayers are with everyone this looks to be a very ugly storm to say the least. I was suprised to see on our area news we are under a high wind warning for over 24 hours and the possibilty of wide spread power outages..I live in Ohio not even on the coast..

My thoughts go out as well! My sister just got a flight back from the Big Apple today. She was on the longest stand by! Sad to say, the financial district might get a big hit.
