Craig is my favorite Bond as well.

I have all the Fleming novels, and as well I find is portrayal of the character to be the closest to the written character.

In an interview craig had this to say about playing Bond:

Quote:
The question I keep asking myself while playing the role is, am I the good guy or just a bad guy who works for the good side?

Pretty much sums up the character.

If you're an overgrown little boy who grew up on Bond movies this is a good'un, a definite return to form. Daniel Craig is in fine shape, Javier Bardem is a fab villain, there's a surprise at the end for Judie Dench... and Bérénice Marlohe - oh baby! She does it for me...

Dame Judith Olivia Dench, CH, DBE, FRSA can make or break you as a double naught spy. Remember her nahme de personale is Judi. It would help your career. Congratulations. You couldn't afford the car then, leading one to assume that you can now. Whoop whoop!!! When I was an overgrown little boy of fourteen, I went to the movies alone to see Goldfinger. It was my patriotic duty as a Kentuckian. I remember chewing the nail off my left thumb nervously as I heard over and over the word Poosy. "Sounds dirty." 8) It's a wonderful life if you don't weaken. Cheers and such. :D

The most obscure James Bond portrayal of all time is the first one by American actor....BARRY NELSON! Nelson played James Bond in the first production of any of Flemming's Bond books, "CASINO ROYALE." It aired on CBS Television's "CLIMAX MYSTERY THEATER" in 1954. I've seen it. It was strange in that they did a role reversal with James Bond being a US agent and the Leiter character being a British agent. Peter Lorre played Le Chiffre.

CBS paid Flemming $1,000 for the rights to the book ($1,000 is not a typo) then changed the story all around to make it work with Nelson who so obviously is not British and to fit in the hour time slot. The plan was to buy all his other James Bond stories and do them too, but the ratings were dreadful and the reviews worse for this and most "CMT shows and "Climax Mystery Theater" got cancelled before another Flemming story could be given the TV treatment. I recently rewatched the Barry Nelson version of "Casino Royale" for fun. It is so bad that it is good for more than just a few laughs. I'm pretty sure this was done live or almost live and shot direct to video, which was a pretty awful way to do anything in 1954.

I know a lot of you don't believe this, especially people in the UK but I swear it is true. Here is a photo of Barry Nelson as James Bond at the baccarat table in Casino Royale.

Thanks for sharing Bro Dave! I bet it was hideus! I dig Bond flicks. Connery is my fave! There are other good ones without him but, I feel that last Casino Royale was junk! No offense to anyone here to each his own! The last Connery movie I liked was You only live Twice. Diamonds are forever was junk as well! Never say never was a terrible cover of Thunderball. I love the original Thunderball! Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger are all classics to me! In the new flick, the chick is cute but, I'm so f-ing sick of tattoos! I don't have any, many great close friends of mine do but, they've had them since they were in their early 20s or, late teens. It gets old man. Cheers!

My favorite Bond films are too numerous to mention but I'd vote for "Goldeneye" as having the best original script.

I like the old originals a lot, but they are sort of dated now and starting to look their age. Still, it is hard to beat the train fight scene in "From Russia With Love."

Somehow the soundtrack theme doesn't seem as dated.

I miss the old Q.

I disagree about Daniel Craig being more like the Flemming character. I think Daniel Craig is too edgy sometimes with an intensity that far surpasses the character in the books. I also think he's a tad on the short side and might be trying to make up for his lack of size with intensity. Craig's is a darker, meaner and somewhat less classy Bond.

Will be there opening night! Nearest IMAX is 40 miles away in downtown Charlotte and it doesn't seem they'll show it opting instead to show "POLAR EXPRESS" so I'll probably just catch it at the local theater. Would love to see it in IMAX though!

No innuendo, no gadgets, no long legged karate kicking Bond girls whats the world coming to eh, half expecting Bond to ask for a "Pint a bitter luv", I remember as a kid going to see Goldfinger I think it was ( blurred) and ducked under the seats at the end to watch it all over again, in those days we had two movies showing so half way through the second showing still totally engrossed and only say 3 hours late being home, a torchlight appears and focuses on myself and my pal, behind the torchlight we could just make out the unmistakable shape of ( relieved but wait till we get you home parents :) ) those were the days, can't say that this film rates with the Bond films of my youth, like the guys who have read the books say, which I haven't, it's not the gadget, bond girl filled film which IMO sets the Bond movies apart from say the Die Hard type movies, may be a good read but darn it I like gadgets and Bond girls good ones and bad ones it's what I grew up on

ps If only he could have got M to, oh I don't know parachute out of a helicopter or sumfin :)

You know, if I'm not mistaken, Fender makes an appearance in "Dr No." It's been a long time since I've watched it, but I could have sworn I noticed the calypso band's bassist with a P-Bass. There might be a Strat or Tele in there, too. If it comes on again (usually they show Bond film marathons during Thanksgiving,) I'll have to pay close attention to see it.
