I've just been to the world IMAX premier of Skyfall, the new Bond film (not the royal premier, sadly. I don't quite qualify for that list).

If you're an overgrown little boy who grew up on Bond movies this is a good'un, a definite return to form. Daniel Craig is in fine shape, Javier Bardem is a fab villain, there's a surprise at the end for Judie Dench... and Bérénice Marlohe - oh baby! She does it for me...

For those who are into this stuff: recommended.

Cheers - C

"Thunderball" remains my favorite (for the moment) but I'll be checking this film out soon.

+++1 !!

Can't wait to see it !!

Daniel Craig, maybe even more so than Sean Connery (sacriledge I know) better embodies the true spirit of James Bond as Ian Fleming originally intended than any other actor portraying him: Barry Nelson, Christopher Cazenove, Toby Stephens, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan !!

Bond was an Assassin... a really, REALLY BAD GUY !!

The comic relief injected into the 'middle' Bond movies was Box Office Good, but strayed broadly from the intended character.

The original Bond was an alloof, borderline psycopathic, cold-blooded Killer... an instrument of Policy for MI6.

I'm happy to see a return to that style of character !

Side Note: Many people don't realize that Ian Fleming's 1st Published Work was: 'Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang'.. !!
A piece he wrote as a bedtime story for his own children !!

cheers!

PS. Here's my Bond Car: 1985 Lotus Turbo Esprit - 36k mi. (You Only Live Twice)

Looking forward to the " misogynistic " ( Dench character's portrayal of James ) assassin's continuing adventure.....

Prefered Bond film would still be " Golden Eye " mostly due to the filming of car chases in and around Monaco and Roquebrune Cap Martin.....
Of course the arch villain was Onatopp ( Famke Jensen ) and the Femme Fatal was Simanova ( Izabella Skorupco )

Bond films portray over the top, fictional characters in a completely ruthless world.
Great entertainment and Yes it is definitely a male oriented universe but it's a film totally Tongue in Cheek .........

However I found Roger Moore as a vulgar exercise in character assassination. May as well have had Liberace play the part.......

Ha! I so agree.

My part of the world, we used to know Daniel Craig from some very different types of role on TV and stage, so when they first announced they were casting him as Bond I was completely confused. But from the first minutes of Casino Royale I totally got it and he immediately became the best Bond (sorry, Sean).

You'll like what he does in this one...

BTW: I once got to test drive a Lotus Esprit. Man, that was exciting! I couldn't possibly afford that car in those days, but it still took a lot of self-control not to buy it on the spot...

Cheers - C

Alas the common folk must wait until Nov. 9th in the USA to see the latest installment of the Bond. I am going. I agree that Daniel Craig has brought back the character as Ian Fleming portrayed him in the books. I think short of bringing Ian back from the dead to write more novels that Daniel Craig's protrayal of the character will ensure the continuation of this franchise as long as the storylines can be written.

The first "guys night out" I remember with my Dad was going to see "Thunderball". At 7 years old much of the inuendo and humor escaped me, but I remembered the rocket pack was cool and wanted one for Christmas.

Thanks for the review Ceri, but we know the best secret agent is hiding in plain sight...

I have to agree that Daniel Craig has breathed new life into the character of James Bond. I've been a Craig fan for quite a while now, so I was delighted to hear that he was taking over the franchise and even happier once I saw him in action.

I have to admit, though, that I still cringe a bit when I think of the bottomless chair and the knotted rope - a little to the left...

Are you tipsy my friend? Sir Ceri Bond was checking out the compitition. What about David Niven in Casino Royale? Probably too serious. :D
