Nice looking ship, Gary!

I build airplane models too -- the static display types.

They don't fly, sure......but then again, they never crash.

Rawk on!

Thanks brother, but there is just something about the smell of nitro methane in the morning, and the nervousness of busting up something that has taken months to build.

I actually have a more detailed build thread on a WWI Sopwith Pup that will be pretty "Scale" like.

I'm not a very good flyer, but have building RC planes for about 20 years. I also raced RC cars off and on for about 20 years at a pretty high level.

I gave up dirt bikes and mountain biking because of my age. I know how it feels at 54.

This is the same plane but mine will be covered in Lime, and Apple Green.

Thats fantastic! Lot of respect thats very cool indeed.

Thats what I like about a lot of what I see from over your side of the Atlantic, seems to be a lot more people building and creating with their own hands than over here. Well thats what I see anyway could well be a generalisation. But if I did that here most of my friends and family (aside from my granddad) would ask why. When I told my dad about building my own guitar he asked why I would do that when I could just buy a "proper" one with the same money.

Whatever happened to doing stuff because you can and because of the satisfaction of building your own thing.

Wow apologies for the rambling there I've had a couple of lagers and I'm being silly.

What I meant to say was kudos on your building sir, hope we get to see a video of it in action!

Thanks. The engine will roughly be putting out 2 horsepower, is .91 cubic inch, will be running on Methanol and 15% Nitro Methane.

Cool! I love that stuff! I built 3 Piper Cubs for a movie I was working on. Well I had a crew of about 10. 1/3 scale gave them a wingspan of about 9 feet! They never flew though. Except for the last one that we dropped straight down from about 50 feet!

I'd like to try a helicopter though.

Very Cool.. !!

Always wanted to do it, but too many other expensive hobbies - Classic Cars and Boats.

I have a buddy who builds them and flies them, even has a couple with real Turbine engines ! I've spent several great days with him messing around with them.

I used to drive the real things (NAVY F-4Js), back when I belonged to Uncle Sam. I also owned a '48 Piper J3 (Cub) back in the '80s, but my few attempts at flying miniatures taught me it's a very different skillset.

cheers!

That's got to have been a while back, Lightnin......all the F-4J's were re-manufactured into F-4S's about twenty-five years ago.

Yes it was...

I was a 22y.o. jg and we were the last squadron flying the J models, mine was made in 1965 and was approaching it maximum flight hours spec. It was dirty, abused and creeked, leaked, shimmied and moaned. It also stank from it's previous 10 or so 'owners'... But I still loved it !

My 'Claim to Fame' was that when everyone back here was watching them pitch Hueys over the side of the carriers on TV during the 'Fall of Saigon' in '75, my buddies and I were orbiting 10k feet overhead making sure that the 'Bad Guys' didn't come out to play.

The rest of my squadron transitioned to the 'S' model at Miramar, and later some to F-14s and the rest to the F/A 18. I was sent to Pax River NAS for Test Flight Certification. I spent my last 7 yrs. working at Pax River.

Think of it, if I had taken up the guitar back then instead of flying, maybe I would be the one charging $650.00/ticket for a one-night gig in Newark..!!

Yea... right.. !!

cheers!
