These are only three that will be launching before the holiday season goes into full swing.

How likely are you to buy one, either for yourself or as a gift for someone else?

Of the 3 the nexus appeals to me most. I don't like apple stuff, and I think the normal iPad is too big for casual use. I find it hard to hold comfortably when slouching on the couch or in bed. I recently got a free Samsung galaxy tab 2 with the new Samsung smart TV, and the 7 inch size is much more ergonomic when just idly browsing or playing games. And apparently the nexus is the best 7 inch tablet, at least until the mini iPad comes out.

Thanks for an interesting link !
I would without doubt by the iPad Mini if I needed it , rather than the others listed. I am reasonably provided with iThings , simply because they work all the time , and are all well suited for musical expressions . They also fit nicely to the office-related parts of my work.
For now I don't feel the need for any more devices like that , personally.

If it fits my budget, it seems like a great idea to give one to my daughter for Christmas . She is much into these Android-things as a sales-person

The new Microsoft 8 Nokia stuff is launching today too, I think.

Asus has some new tablets and the Toshiba one is out now.

My wife has a Nexus 7 and she loves it. I have a second generation iPad and I'm happy with that, so no new stuff for us even though our son works for Moto and works in product management and training...we see all the new stuff, but we're good.

Anyone looking at the Android devices should wait until the new Jelly Bean OS is on them, IMO. The Nexus 7 is currently the only one with it so far.

Testing 1 2 3

I'm posting this from an Asus Eee Pad TF10 at a store. Not what I came here for and not what I'm buying, but seems like a cool device.

I'm thinking of getting an iPad Mini instead of updating my phone. It would be nice to bring with me to teach lessons, and small enough to fit in my gig bag. I could print from it for students, and use garageband to record with. I've also been reading a lot on my phone, so the bigger screen would be really nice for that. But I don't have the money for it now anyway, so it's sort of a moot question. But my experience with Apple products have been great, and I think their customer service alone warrants sticking with them at least for now.

+1

I remember the one day I had an issue downloading something from the store, so I emailed and the guy helped me sort it. The best part of all was because they had my details when I didn't reply to his last email the guy actually phoned me up to check that I had it all sorted out. Thats great in my book.

Anyway I'm a big Apple fan, yes you do get a more limited experience to pc and other more open OS, but you get rewarded with an experience that works. It's up to you if that works for you or not. But it sure works for me.

I've recently got an iPad 3 and to be honest I wouldn't have anything else. I've also purchased an app called 'Amplitube' that Fender has collaborated with to create versions of their amps and pedals, like a Twin Reverb, Bassman etc.. Your guitar connects to the ipad with an 'iRig' which lets you play straight to the ipad. You can configure these anyway you want, record your own track, remove guitar and vocals from your own music, tuner, and also record with a multitrack mixing desk. In fact, you can even plug it straight into your own rig.

There is also a Slash version, and the standard version which I have also has modelled hi gain amps modelled off Marshall, Randall and messa boogie.. You can also download distortion effects, modulation, auto wah, chorus, flange, phaser, and delay amount many others

I'll try and upload a shot for you all to see, but I urge you guys to make an investment into this if you have an iPad, you will love it! ;)

Blertles, you are aware of Garage Band, I guess? You can use your iRig to play those amps and effects inside GB, as well. It is an excellent app. I'm sure the amplitube also is - I've just tried the one that comes for free with the iRig , through my iPhone.

Funny how times are changing . Nowadays I have more real amps than ever - and I also have access to ''endless'' amp-simulations through software . I use Logic Pro for recording - and that package also contains the MainStage program , which is more like a ''live-version'' of Logics instruments , including amp-sims. Both are really great and usable software !

Still - I prefer , both for recording and live , to use the ordinary ,preferably analogue equipment. The software simulations are a great extension to the sound palette if there is a sound you really need , and need quick (and free!) access to. It is also very convenient for practicing and recording in silence , where that might be required (family/neighbors situation)

I also like it because you can mix around with effects to see what you need before you go out and buy the various pedals and what not without risking getting what you don't actually want.

Anyway back to the gadget fight

Nice setup you have there Mike :)

Personally I believe for guitar modelling apps, I think the iPad is the one to go- mind you I haven't researched other android apps but GarageBand and amplitude tends to be the most popular ones out. I do believe boss and digitech do apps and also digitech have a multi stomp box that completely integrates with iPad too

http://www.digitech.com/en-US/products/istomp-3-pack

However if there were these types of apps on android devices then I would consider them aswell

Thanks - it's great for sketching ideas and even bouncing from iPad to iMac.

The iPad has Garageband, Amplitube Fender, Shredder Guitar Synth (Yonac), Steel Guitar (Yonac) SampleTank, Korg iMS20 and iRig recorder.

I have both an iPad 2 and an iPad 3 (my wifes) and really like them. Instead of an iPad mini, I was hoping that they would make an iPad MAXI. Heck, make the iPad with a 17 inch screen and I wouldn't EVER use my desktop iMac.
