The only people I can think of who I'd pay $650 to see are all dead. When Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood came to town I didn't get to see them because I wasn't going to pay $80 for a nose bleed seat. I kind of regret that now, but on the other hand you could buy some decent gear for the price of a couple of tickets.

I know a guy who flew across the pond to the RAH for The Cream Reunion and then saw them again when they did MSG in NYC and Clapton/Winwood there as well. I bought the DVD's, avoided the crowds, the traffic, the railroad/subway BS and can revisit them any 'ol' time. Saw JB at an 1800 seat venue in Westbury, paid $135 for tickets which turned out to be 4th row on his stage left, and every time he soloed he turned into his bass player who was standing on that side. That performance was killer. When he came back to the Beacon Theatre recently, the ticket prices were doubled or more. The laws of diminishing returns come into play for many of us but the beat goes on.

No. I can buy 5 DVD concerts for under $100. Play them in Blu-Ray, Hi-Def, through the family stereo with headphones on for full effect and not get rushed, crushed, pick up a unwanted contact high or have to deal with alien masses I struggle to relate too. I can then use the leftover $550 for a basic tube amp. Just can't even begin to try to justify that expenditure logically. 8)

hmmm...there's a couple of ways to look at this.

...record sales aren't what they used to be, so live shows are the only real way to make bank as a musician these days -- can't blame them for makin' bank, correct?

Astronomically high ticket prices? ...why not do 4 concerts instead of 16 concerts if you can -- ex-specially if you're 90-years old...wouldn't 16 concerts would be kind of rough at 90?

...this is the Rolling Stones way of sayin' phuck you to a ravaged America, which reminds me of the deal they cut with Best Buy for sole distribution rights a while back, which is when I stopped listening to the Rolling Stones. If you're that offended...don't buy their stuff.

...tell me, don't you secretly wish somebody'd pay $650.00 a ticket to see you play? I wouldn't mind.

I'd pay $650.00 to see Rush if they played a small venue (100 people) and mingled with the crowd afterward...until everybody who wanted to say hi and get an autograph said "Hi!" and got an autograph!

But still...no. I wouldn't pay that much for just a concert -- that's obscene unless I were obscenely rich. Then, it wouldn't really matter..."if you have ask..."

I paid $600 for 2 tickets to see BB King on January 1, 2011 at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. Our two seats were 6 feet away from Mr. King. We were able to shake his hand, photograph him throughout the show (no video allowed), got his autograph, and several of the little trinkets he gives away at the end of the show. Well worth the money for what may have been our last chance to see him perform. :D

Now I can see that as having been money well spent.

If you want to sit in Section 415 and Row B, it will cost the low, low price of $2170. I heard of some people selling them for upwards of $19,000(no typo!).

Edited for this: lol.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolling-Stones-two-tickets-December-15-2012-Front-rows-center-stage-/160905755007?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2576baf97f

"Rush" does a 'meet and greet' and so does Bonamassa. I'm sure there are other artists who do as well.

Big difference between your standard "meet and greet" and literally sitting at the feet of your hero as we were as they play.

My wife and I have tickets to see Joe B next month at the Warner Theater in Washington DC. $250 for two tickets (including reserved parking) on the isle at about mid-theater.

Best $100 concert I ever saw was this past July at Famous Dave's Blues Club (the original Famous Dave's) in Minneapolis - Edgar Winter... absolutely AMAZING Show !

Image

$50 each got my wife and I V.I.P. Access Tix and one of three stage-side 4-top tables in a venue of under 250 total ! (actually 225 according to the Fire Dept. certificate).
We met Edgar before and after the show and got autographs and complimentary CDs !

We had drinks and food service throughout the show. A guy rushed the V.I.P. area and set his drink on our table, the bouncers promptly told him he had to return to his seat (which was in the back).

See more of our pics at: http://photobucket.com/EdgarWinter

Daddat Don Don... Dadda Donta... :)

Cheers!

PS... Gen'l Seating was $10 !

Having been seated literally at the feet of Les Paul, close enough to be able to flip the pots on his floorboard, I can appreciate what you say. 8)

No. I would only pay that amount of money for Pearl jam, Jack White, The Vasco Era and Son House to play a private show in my backyard.

Now there's a music smorgasborg worth the price.
