Well, in search of a dual humbucker guitar in the style of a Les Paul at an affordable price, I finally decided on a Gibson LP Studio in Satin Gold.. Sweetwater has 'em for $674... Haven't had much time with it but it sure sounds nice through the DRRI... better pictures later...

For now:

Congrats!

What do you think of the satin finish in gold? So far I haven't liked the satin finish. The ones I've tried felt sticky and I didn't care for the plethora of unfilled pores in the wood, but I'm thinking that the gold might be different than the satin brown or cherry.

Well, I must admit that I prefer a glossy finish over the satin but I'm gonna try to gloss it up a bit. Anyway, my LP Studio doesn't feel sticky. It is not nearly as finely finished as the more expensive LP's or my Fender guitars but I didn't expect that for what it cost so it doesn't bother me... too much.. What I DO like is the shorter scale neck and the great tone from the LP Studio...

oldguy101...nice score and that is an excellent price, hard to beat $674! Enjoy that puppy.

I noticed you said you were going to try and gloss it up a bit, how you planning to do that?

I've got some research to do to make sure I don't screw it up. There are a number of options.. The satin finish looks like it was sprayed on and not finished beyond that. I want to determine if it was overcoated with a satin clear before I do anything. I do think the topcoat needs to be smoothed out by wet sanding and/or buffing and polishing. I have read some good reviews for Virtuoso cleaner and polish so that might be the first thing I try...

For that price I want one now! Didn't realize it was a Gibson and not Epiphone.
