"Brad and the Admin" sounds like a fantastic sitcom in the making. But seriously, who is the "Admin"? I'd love to meet him. LOL! :-)

Also ... while I think the spirit of this post is right on, I'd caution against one tendency I've seen here (and at many other forums) which is to immediately blast newcomers and try to whip them into shape. I guess what I'm advocating is being polite to newcomers and at least being friendly when explaining that "we've seen this topic many times before" and whatnot -- give folks a chance to shape up and get on board.

Brad, I concur. Maybe you should make this a sticky then? How is that for a not so subtle hint?

Go D'Backs!

I used to live in Prescott.

Overall nice idea, but I doubt it will help the situation though.

I have to disagree with the original post to some extent. With all due respect, the poster is not a moderator. I haven't been here long, but I have found at some sites, folks who have been around longer or have thousands of posts tend to become tired of the same posts after awhile. I know I do. But I just don't click on them. It's like the TV...you don't like the channel...don't click on it.

Newcomers.....and even folks who have been around for awhile, but don't live by this message board everyday ought to be able to post within the board's guidlines.

Ummmm in case you haven't noticed you're one of the people that's referred to...
I am by no means a typist or champion speller and spelling isn't nessesarily the BIG INDICATOR of a person's worth to themselves or others or humanity for that matter. Would you sign a contract with poor spelling in it? Some thing like that tells me the writer and bearer don't know what they are doing; but we can have tolerance here as this isn't a contract; but we should do our best to show ourselves at our best. I certainly am not here to show my poorer side and those that make shabby posts seem to want to shove that in the face(es) of the community here. IMHO it's not wanted.
Some times my posts are large and wordy I know that and it has been pointed out to me but I haven't picked up any negative indications in the responses to my posts.
Considering all the posts I have read some include the following (no you don't have all these features in your posts)
Bad spelling, poor grammar, slang, cussing, especially when done on purpose for what ever reason doesn't draw the kind of attention those that post that way hope. And I'm sure we'll get a rash of these since I mentioned them; That just furthers the case of lack on those posters' part.
In a nut shell posts that fall into this catagory reflect directly on the person writing them. If the aim is to get attention it'll fail; if it's to look cool it just looks like an indication of that person's education level or I.Q.
Reading that stuff is hard work and I just pass over them and move on to a post that seems to the point and is easy to read. I don't come here to work; I come here to learn and laugh, (see "I hurt my wrist!") pass on some hard won knowledge, and a little wisdom about life as concerns music if the oppotunity arises.
There are people here who do not speak English and must struggle through this; they are welcome as any one else is; using slang just leaves them out; everyone here has heard a conversation in a laguage they didn't undersdtand; how did you like being left out? did you ask yourself what they were saying? was it about you?.....that's why we have the language problem here; ....

We're here to communicate; not write gibberish making HARDER to communicate. Seems pretty obvious to me...

IMHO most places we want to be accepted will accept us pretty quickly; everyone has 100% integrity when they arrive; we ourselves lessen it with what we do and say. We all expect 100% respect; if you don't like what is being said or how move on; that's respectful and hurts no one; if it's against the rules report it to Brad. Hopefully the poster will notice no one is reading their stuff and change or move on to a forum where that kind of behavior is accepted.
IMHO the community here accepts all till they go outside the envelope established here by our friends at Fender and the community at large; simply put if some behave pooly they are ostracised (SP?) till a change happens. They either buck up and conform or they find their entertainment elsewhere because nobody cares about what they have to say.
Musicians like to think they are free thinkers and any kind of behavior is ok. Try joining a band and not show for rehersals, don't practice your stuff, or show up with half your stuff or under the influence of something. Flip your finger the audiance or get into a shouting match with some one there. Call the guy that's paying you a jerk; Yep we all have to conform to a code of some kind and the older you get the easier it is to see the code.
Nuff said. I hope I didn't make any misteaks.....

Well, it seems as though the same thread gets done twice a day on many occasions, so i thought i'd compile a list of things that a new member probably should look into before making new threads

- It's nice you joined the forum... we have a nice community going here, but every person who joins doesn't have to make their own thread to say hello... it's friendly, but clutters up the board from actual discussion... introduce yourself here http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... .php?t=158

- PLEASE DO A SEARCH before making a thread... the search option is near the top of the page between "usergroups" and "FAQs".. it can also be located here http://www.fender.com/community/forums/search.php

- Although you may feel compelled to compare numerous, completely unrelated things, can we keep the VS. threads to a minimum? i can understand logical arguments which serve a purpose, but comparing two completely unrelated bands for example doesn't make sense... its like asking which is better, toast or a swimming poll?

- We all came here for a reason, that is because of Fender guitars and the company that sells them. Making polls on a fender site comparing fender to something else is stupid, obviously fender will win since 99.9% of people here own and play fender gear.

- Can we limit the "what is the best guitarist/guitar/band" thread.... this is all completely subjective and done to death... do a search and see what other people say, don't make the thread again... obviously a guitar with EMGs isn't as suited for blues like a strat is, its all from a point of view

- Stop asking when it will be open 24/7... we don't know, but we will whenever brad and the admin feel it is a suitable time.. it has been discussed numerous times so search and you shall find what you seek

if anyone else wants to add anything, go right ahead... if you feel i'm just speaking for myself and not the community, tell me.. these are just my views, but i think if the majority of the community followed them even somewhat, there would be a lot less clutter and spam

EDIT: I AM NOT saying all new members will by any means do any of these. The great majority of you have enough common sense to do things like this, but I feel it will at least help make less clutter.
you whrite too many words :(

Sigh.... that's exactly the point of the thread. So people read it and don't do things like you posted poorboy. Reading it shouldn't be a concern, because it will save you a lot of ridicule down the road along with proper grammar and spelling.
