My birthday is coming up next, and my honey has been fretting about a gift. I told her that hers & my family's love, is the gift. But, I have been eyeing this Champion 600 that has been in a local pawnshop for over nine months, priced at $120.

I finally decided to see if they would haggle, if I came in with cash. We settled on $100 cash, tax included.

I got home right before the OSU game and plugged it in. I was really surprised by the amp's tone, direct-in, dialed in around '8'. I later got out out my vintage original Tube King, and WOW, really fat tone.

I also plugged my BOSS ME-20 into, and was amazed again how pedal friendly the Champion 600 is, it's going to make a great recording amp. I have my original '66 Princeton, but with it still having the original tubes & speakers, I don't want to turn it too much, now I don't.

Oh, when my honey came home, I 'thanked' her for my present  .

I have had one for a while too Tony, they really take pedals well.

This becomes a problem:

I've got the little Bronco, the Blues Junior, and the Acoustasonic 150 (surprisingly swell). Then I've got the little 5 watt EC Champ on the way. With my wife, it seems, that they're not a problem as long as they're small. Your Champion is beautiful, btw.

Happy New Fender Amp Day!

Low wattage seems to be a good way to go for home recording. Aside from capturing the true tube tone, it's amazing what you can do with post track processing.

Last night I ran the 600 in stereo with my Mustang I using the BOSS ME-20 http://tinyurl.com/8w3csyy.

I used the 'red' '65 Twin Reverb preset on the Mustang, but had the reverb turned 'off'. I had already created a custom patch on the ME-20 that had reverb. It was pretty cool sounding! I also used several other patches that I had created during the course of the night.

neat score tony, lately i've been contemplating buying a smaller unit and have been weighing the comparative differences between the 600 and the new Greta.
