Well, Racing Green is always cool, but given the thread title I think anything other than pink - er, sorry, "Salmon"... - would be against the Trade Descriptions Act, wouldn't it? :D

I don't remember seeing Man Salmon down at Halfords' paint department, but I expect they can mix you an aerosol of it if you ask them very nicely. And wear your hat at just the right angle.

A-a-a-a-anyway. Most important thing: what's the cat's name, please? A handsome fella, that's for sure! 8)

I do like a good pink! Maybe even a matching headstock, who knows?!

As for my feline friend his name is Monaco, the breeders named each kitten of the litter after F1 race tracks, but we tend to shorten it to "Noco". Or WHAT THE !@*& HAS THAT BEAST DONE THIS TIME

Hey, yeah? Then I'm guessing poor little Österreichring was the last kitten to find an owner, huh? Not exactly a catchy name to be calling from the back door step at dinner time... :(

Nice and even work with the heat gun, I'd have scorch marks all over the wood. Liking the the matching headstock idea, how about Candy Apple Green for a little twist on the color?

Cheers,

But of course that leads the question, which colour. I'm leaning towards a shell pink, but wouldn't a British Racing Green be fantastic? Also after a fantastic summer of british sport wouldn't BRG be a lovely tribute. Who knows, input by you folks would be fantastic as always.

He is doing a great job on his thread. Shots of feet and shoes, cat. He is depending on you guys to furnish the booze.

So, Sir C, what is this insinuation about the cocked hat. Shell pink is an old honorable strat colour. Man salmon is just a more manly choice. I have been meditating on my strat coating for a long time, and was happy that op reminded me of my fav, shell pink. I had been thinking about Danish oil on ash. My build has been going on for about a year. I have bought everything and have installed my posts, Ceri style. You can't rush these things. :D

I think I'm set on shell pink, it is a great colour and I'll give it a little twist with the matching headstock I think.

As for the actual parts on the guitar I'm gonna keep it as simple as possible I think. Fixed bridge (I never ever use the tremolo, mine are decked and this is less parts to go wrong  ), and classic vintage style pickups, but unsure which ones yet. Normal 5 way switch. Obviously when it comes to it however I'll want to do something more flash with the electronics, lets see if I resist....

Also seeing as I love the neck of my classic vibe 60's more than anything else ever, I'm just gonna ebay one of them I think, several places part out the parts from the guitars eh. I've looked and it seems doing this is the same or cheaper than getting a custom neck made. Plus if I'm doing the painted headstock I can get a new decal printed to put on that, happy days)

Pay day is friday, so I need to spend this week sorting out the proper plan so I can start buying parts, exciting! Expect questions on certain parts I don't understand

As for the body, no new news, the rain here has put a stop to the stripping for now.

Cheers all.

Hee-hee! Just to be absolutely clear, I haven't the slightest problem with anyone's "preferences", as we might put it. But I just have a sort of instinct that whichever way a guy swings he'd need to feel good and confident about his life choices to march into the paint department of your average car parts store, staffed as they tend to be with the less than modern-minded of the population, demanding a tin of Man Salmon Pink lacquer to spray on his instrument. Either that, or go the full bit and stroll in dressed as Boy George and scare the bejesus out of them - now that I'd pay to see! :D

Now this is interesting news! I'm just putting in a bulk online order for popcorn as I type, to cover both Snowjoe's thread and now yours. Tres cool!

Carry on, gentlemen.

Cheers - C

I was thinking the boy George option with a boombox playing that part in karma chameleon where the drums break down and we all clap our hands.

But on a serious note paint should be all stripped tomorrow. Parts will begin to be ordered on Friday. Very excited.

But this is exactly how these things start - ya just kinda get bounced into it!

Now, make with the camera and show us this build. I for one have a personal interest in seeing how those posts went in. 8)

And to Snowjoe: mate, we're just vamping here till you come back and show us that body all nicely nude-ified. Or some cat pix if you prefer. Or both! Have a good weekend... :D

Cheers - C

Well after a sleepless night last night, I woke up at 1pm, work at 3pm so no body stripping time I'm afraid. Busy day tomorrow so looking at saturday now. However I am a big fan of off topic and idle conversation......

THEREFORE

I do have this.....

Image

It's by no means a fine Ale however I do like a good continental lager and it was on offer at the garage. Time for some guitar and a couple of brews before bed. I feel like build threads should offer some parts build and many parts cats and beer, with some socks thrown in for good measure.

Cheers all!

I also might change my avatar before this gets too confusing with Ceri!

Ah, no probs with it, man. We're both allowed to have the same avatar - but that's exactly why I added that little pencil drawing of a Strat on my sig line, cos I noticed people were sometimes getting us mixed up. Now they can tell us apart. :D

Cheers - C

Heh when I signed up I was gassing after the AVR 57 strat in Surf Green hence I chose it, but now it seems avatars are disabled so I either keep this or lose it  However it would be flattering to be mistaken for you, maybe not so much the other way around

Anyway I digress.

Tomorrow morning should see the last of the paint removed, so I'll get sanding and then desperately want to paint it, but I must wait.

Need to start thinking about wiring, I think I want to keep it simple for sure, going single coils. I'm looking at the custom shop 69 pickups, as they are close to the era of the strat John Fruciante uses, and as my idol somewhat that is the sort of sound I'm looking for. But there are so many options its baffling

But the questions are, the difference in pot resistance, 250 or 500, I get how to wire everything together and coming from a hi-fi and home install background I'm a solid hand at wiring, but I'm not sure I understand fully what the difference between the two is. Also I imagine there is a way to wire the neck and bridge pickup to the same pot? So that with the 5 way switch you can effectively control every pickup combo with 2 tone knobs. There much be such a thing as a double pot? There are so many different types of electronics at different prices, its baffling, but I'm looking forward to this challenge!

[edit] After some research I see you can bridge the connection on the switch to run two into one tone, can you run into any issues with this or is it all legit?

Maybe I'll find some fancy type of tone control that I fancy trying, I just love all the options

I understand you are all busy people but if anyone spares a minute to impart some knowledge I'd be eternally grateful.

Cheers all.

I'm now sanding with fine 200 grit and getting psyched to start priming soon. Thought I'd check in on your status.

Sorry can't help you with the wiring stuff though. I tried to replace a pup once in my Musicmaster bass and managed to break one of the leads on the thing, $60 mistake  But ya live and learn. There's tons of sights out there that discuss wiring so shouldn't be a problem to find what you need.

My project involves the body paint job, than I can move all the other parts from my existing Musicmaster bass to this body. After that check the set up and I'll hopefully be good to go.

Kind of narrowed in on a color/design now too. It's a black/red background with some white graphics, some shading to be done in gray around the white and it'll sort of divide the body in 3 sections if that makes sense. Taking photos and if all goes well I'll post a thread on it when it's done.

Have a great weekend.

I won't lie I'm struggling to see a vision of it in my head but it sounds exciting, love it out of the ordinary and I can't wait to see a picture of the finished business!

I'm almost 100% sure on Shell Pink, but I've made a nifty little drawing in illustrator so I can easily swap colours of the fingerboard body and pickguard in a couple of clicks and see what I like, just need to draw out the pickguard....

Anyway the sun is out, there is a big chill in the air, get me my heat gun!
