I've heard you can get a fairly convincing 12 string sound from an EHX Pog.

You could also try Nashville tuning, where the E,A,D and G strings are tuned an octave higher. This makes a 6 string guitar sound like the upper courses on a 12 string.

I agree the POG sounds good and I've also seen a guy use a Digitech Whammy pedal to get a very convincing 12 string sound

The old Roland VG-8 could be very convincing indeed, but requires a GK compatible pickup to be mounted somewhere.

Just the fact that it let you have the bottom four strings in octaves and the top two fake pairs tuned in unison instantly made it a lot more authentic in a mix, and whereas they used to cost the same as a half decent used car, now they regularly pop up for next to nothing. I just missed out on one for £70 recently including the GK-2 pickup.

(Or just buy a cheap 12 string. )

Ummm, I would recommend staying away from a cheap 12 string. Tuning is a double nightmare even with a high quality 12. I have experience with this.

My two cents.

I've got an EHX Micro Pog on my pedal-board that gives me some wonderful 12 string tones.
