Hello guys! I'm looking for a overdrive pedal next to my mxr distortion III. I'm going to use it to boost mxr. So our Second-hand dealer has this maxon od808. I tried it and it sound pretty good to me. What do you think about this pedal and do you have any suggestions for other pedals?

Thank you!

Have you ever heard of the Ibanez Tube Screamer? The Maxon is the same pedal. It's a very popular sound. Not my cup of tea but very popular. Most of the big names have used one at one time or another. IMO it does better as a lead pedal than as a rhythm pedal.

+1

Might want to give the MXR Micro Amp a look for a quick fix. But if the Maxon sounds good to you then it doesn't matter what anyone thinks.

I tried one a friend owns and found it to be pretty much the same as a Tube Screamer except more expensive. If your looking just to boost your mxr there are various pedals you could use i.e. a compressor or a graphic equalizer or a Fulltone clean boost. Depends on the sound your looking for, but if you get one of the above mentioned they could do double duty as a boost for your mxr or as stand alone boosts.

Of course I heard about tube screamers. Is it worth to buy this pedal rather than tubescreamer? And I like the overdrive boosts. I've tried couple of clean boosters such as micro amp, compressors and etc. Our dealer says that there will be a classic ts9 coming next month. Should I wait for it or buy this pedal.

By the way thanks for your help. 8)

Everything you ever wanted to know about Ibanez and Maxon Tube Screamers

I say if you really want that sound then get a real TS808. That will cost a lot of money so you may want to look into a re-issue.

Have a look at the T Rex Alberta. Fantastic pedal. Alot smoother than any other Tube screamer or Ts clone I ve tried. Not a high gain pedal at all. And works very well stacked with other drive pedals.
I use one stacked infront of a ts9 into my BDRI. With the Alberta set at low gain and the Ts set high gain. I'm very happy with my sound at the moment with this current set up. Even the drummer mentioned how good it sounded when I first started using it.
Really worth a look.
