Also, I believe that most of the more official and fancy Message Board Forums on the 'net now use pre-designed, purchased formats. It's alot easier and cheaper, to buy a "package" with adjustable options, then it is to have one custom built for you.

Hence, Fender doesn't want there to be PM's, so they just disable the option. I'm sure they considered many of the more prominent formats out there to decide which would be the best in terms of user friendly, and expressive tools, ease and cost of maintainence, plus owner controllable options. It's a very nice forum.

I frequent several forums that seem to use the same program and software for their forums, including this one. I think PMs are a feature that are just a part of the forum software, but can be enabled or disabled by the administrators of the specific forum. Hopefully they'll let us PM people and use our own avatars. Keep in mind this forum is only about a year old, so they are still just trying to get the thing rolling in many ways...

I think allowing PM's and custom avatars would be nice features to have...

Maybe we'll get them in the future, but from their standpoint, those are just two more things that the staff have to police, and two of the most difficult. They have to make sure that the Avatars are "appropriate" for the age bracket of the users who have access to this site. Also, PMing can be abused. So that's one more headache. I think in the future, it MIGHT happen. However, as a gigantic corporation, I understand FMIC's reluctance to put themselves into any territory that might make them open to litigation.

Well, that at least answers a question for me. I was trying to add in a custom avatar. yet so no way to do that. Wasted about 20 mins. trying to find that.
