I guess we are all feeling the effects of the global recession these days. As a consequence of this, whenever I make a new Guitar purchase, I do it through an old school friend who owns a Guitar shop here in Dublin. For example, I'm currently paying off a 2011 Gibson ES-335 Dot Reissue. I tell him what Guitar I want, he orders it in and I pay him €100 a month off it and he hands it to me straight away. I will then sometimes pay more than the €100 off per month when I can to fast-track the payment of the Guitar. I should have the Gibson paid off by next March and I'm already thinking of what to get next. My wife is already resigned to the fact that this will be an ongoing thing since she got is into hock due to her obsession with Home Improvement so it's all good.

So..... My budget is €3000. My collection at the moment consists of a 2011 Gibson ES-335, a 2005 Gretsch Duo Jet, a 1998 Fender Classic Series 50s Strat and a Garrison Acoustic Guitar. I also have a 20 watt all tube Peavey Windsor that has been heavily modified with better speaker, caps and power tube.

So what I'm thinking of is this:
2012 Gibson SG Standard
2012 Fender American Standard Telecaster
Blackstar HT-20 Amp (will sell on the Peavey)http://www.blackstaramps.com/products/ht-studio20/

I was thinking about the new 2012 Gibson Les Paul Standard but then if I get that, I can only afford the one Guitar. I already have the 335 so the SG would be a better fit in the collection and I'm think about the Standard with the P90s and can then add a nice American Standard Tele to the collection as well.

I think I'm on pretty solid ground with the SG and the Tele.

What do you think? :)

Sounds like a plan and you have a good payment system in place, so go for it - you only live once!

It also sounds like your "old school friend" is one very, very patient fellow - letting you pay a guitar off over thirty (30) months while you already have it in hand? Be careful you don't go to the well once too often with this arrangement.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Well it sounds like you have a great relationship with your local music store. As for the next purchase...might I suggest a nice Les Paul with P90s! It seems you are missing those amoungst your collection.

There's been an interesting twist to this story. I was contacted yesterday by a guy asking me if I still had the Gretsch and would I be interested in trading it for a 52 Fender AVRI Telecaster. He said he would go as far as call up to the house with it so I could try it out. So he came up at 7pm with the Tele.

Needless to say that I fell in love with it, particularly the U-shaped neck and it's tone and it's period correct features, right down to the serial number pressed into the bridge plate. I called a few friends before I saw it and they all agreed to take the Tele and run so to say. I must admit that I was struggling to get to grips with the very thin neck on the Gretsch as well as the additional cost of installing a Bigsby and the inevitable new case needed as well as the fact that I was planning to add a Tele to my collection made the decision very easy for me.

that Tele is perfect, I wouldn't have wasted a second thinking about it, you made the right decision for sure. :)
