Hi all,

I recently learned to play "She Talks to Angels" by the black crowes which is played with open e tuning. I'm wondering what some other songs are that are played in open e. I'd like to know more so if I'm playing a bunch of songs I don't need to switch my tuning back to standard after one song.

I don't know what open E tuning is, but I never change from 440. I play it like this guy.

personally I find the alternate tunings irritating..I can not believe how many drop D songs are on the radio nowadays.. Other than for slide I also do not use alternate tunings..This of course is entirely my opinion only..

Open e is E B E Gb B E from the sixth string. Playing all of the strings open makes an e chord. I can play the song fine (btw its actually a very fun song to play. Love the licks in the intro.) Just wondering what other songs I can play with that tuning because I really like it.

This is the only song I play in alternate tuning. I too hate drop D, I think its annoying.

Maybe that's the reason why he committed suicide.

Cheers

Drop D really just sticks the toes in the water for alternate tunings.

I use quite a few of them, and some are "out there".. CGDEAD, EbGDGBbD, DADGAD, DADEAD to name just a few. One thing for sure, leave everything you know about chord shapes out side when you enter this chamber! :D

anyone who wishes to journey down these roads with an acoustic, should make sure they have a properly regulated nut, or you'll be breaking strings more than you would ever thought possible.

For open E,, I think Little Martha (Almann Bros) is also in this tuning.

What's with the drop D hate? A lot of great bands play in drop D. That open D power chord = chug chug chug. \m/ O__o \m/ :D

There are many great tunes in open E, open G ect. Try listening to the Stones from Beggars Banquet to Exile on Main Street lots of great tunes there.

Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh was open E too. But he plays open e just for slide parts. He use standart tuning for talkbox solo. It feels weird on alternate tunings.

Duane Allman used Open E quite a bit on the Layla album. And I think he played Statesboro Blues from the Allman Bros Fillmore disc is Open E.
