So I took my Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster in for warranty work on a dead pickup. I dropped it off on Saturday Sept 15. The tech wasn't in that day, so I called on Monday to give a run down of the problem and find out when it will be done. He says they have to order the pickup, so about 2 weeks. Well two weeks was a couple days ago, so i call him today and he said there was confusion about ordering the pickup. They (Fender I think) thought the guitar was being shipped back. He told me he talked to them this morning and my pick up has just been ordered and it won't be ready for 2 weeks. You gotta be kidding me!! I have had nothing but issues since I bought this guitar. It was in the shop twice before for the same issue, but at a different location. I think the first tech is useless and he dinged my guitar so i took it to their new store thinking it would be better. That thing had better be fixed right cuz i am getting sick of dealing with these jokers!

I would go get the guitar and tell them to call you when the p/u comes in.

That is a good idea, but I know I won't be able to play it both because of the pickup and because I'm too busy with my kids right now. Its more of it being in someone elses hands instead of my own. The last time I left it with a tech it came back with a ding on it, and the only case I have for it right now is a soft gig bag.

How old is it? Perhaps they'll exchange it. Sorry to hear of all the problems.

Its almost 1 year old. They would have returned it within the fist 30 days, but my baby girl was born the day before it arrived and I had no time to play it. I didn't find out anything was wrong with it until a couple months later and I had the volume pot replaced. Aside from the actual playability of the guitar, the electronics have been nothing but trouble.

If they still can't get it right, you may be better off just biting the bullet and shipping it off to someone reputable to do the job. I realize that's not what you want to hear, but it's just an idea.

These guys (Long and McQuade) are supposed to be the Fender Authorized dealers. I never had any trouble with them until a couple of years ago. I got a couple of bad set ups and ended up re-doing it myself. Then I had an amp I took to them 3 times and everytime it came home, the issue was still present. Now its the issue with my Jazzmaster. They opened a 2nd location so I figured I'd try that tech instead. I've yet to see his work, but a friend told me he was good. Its sounds like a miscommunication between L&M and Fender, but I don't want to have to wait a month or more to get this thing fixed. Once the warranty has expired, hopefully I won't have anymore issues, but if I do, I'll be looking for someone new, or I'll do it myself dammit! My dad built electronics for 25+ years, so he could help, if I could ever get him to do it!

man that sucks. i'd say you have reason to get a little over-dramatic and see if you can convince someone to just give you a new guitar.

So I got a call from the tech on the weekend regarding my guitar. Apparantly the tech has not received his certification papers from Fender yet, so they would not send him the pick up (Good on Fender), so instead of calling me and asking me how I would like to proceed, they shipped my guitar back to Fender for a replacement (bad on the tech!).
If I had the option, I would have rather taken the guitar back to the original tech, who I know is certified and reluctantly have him do it. Now I am waiting for a guitar that I have no idea when it will arrive, and I am a little concerned because I have bonded with the other guitar already. I love the neck. Its the best part. I would have put replcaement pick ups in it before I sent it back to Fender. I hope the new one arrives in perfect shape. I bought this last November and its been almost a year of hassles. I wonder if there will be any warranty on this guitar?

You had better get hold of Fender and see if any of this is true because it sounds fishy to me.

+1

Most states have "lemon laws" to protect consumers from such blatant abuse.
