I use these Image I like to use the orange ones now and then, the green ones are a bit too heavy.

They're all just crappy cheap bits of plastic, and to me, that's just how they feel.
Get a Bone.
Get a Stone.
Get Wood.
Dig up a Mammoth.
Even buy an antique TS.
We spend thousands on our guitars and then pluck them with these pieces of junk. :?

Been chopping and changing picks for a while now.
The Dunlop Jazztone series feel and sound great. But just to thick.

Settled on Jazz III reds. Tip for lead stuff. Side for rhythm.

Jazz III reds is where I'm at now, also. It used to be too small for me, but lately I like how close I hold it to the tip, which gives me more accuracy. If I was just playing rythm, I'd use something larger. But, for lead, I'm hooked on these. It didn't hurt that after I started using them, I found out that that's the pick Joe Bonamassa uses. I wanna be like Joe!

The only picks I hate are Match Piks. Neat idea, crappy picks.

I keep one Tortex around for practice at home because it lasts forever. Do I like it? Nope. I use Fender 351 heavies in abalone or confetti, but they don't last as long as the Dunlops. But the Fender picks sound better to me.

Any suggestions for a pick that would give me the twang of a Tortex on the bottom end but a high end closer to the Fender 351?

Bill...you so successfully pulled off hijacking your own thread here, no one noticed   That has got to be worth a couple extra points on some level :!:

Now for your question, how long did you give the Dunlops? Did you try a little thinner one? If you said, I didn't catch it. I use the green Dunlops Tortex and have never noticed the more pronounced treble, but then again I don't have "Engineer Hearing" Give em another try for a bit and see if you still don't like em. Me I won't use anything else.

Yeah, I did, didn't I.

I went with the yellow (0.73 mm) picks because they seemed closest in thickness to the Fender 351 mediums.

So you think a thicker pick (Greens are 0.88 mm) would be smoother sounding?

Engineer hearing? Shoot. I'm 58 years old. I grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Steppenwolf, and Iron Butterfly on cheap stereos cranked to the bursting point. My hearing is shot.

Yeah you did, nice one

Yeah the .88mm ones is the one I use, a little less flex might help (of course it could make it worse too?) and be sure to use the ham fisted approach to the strings, works for me.

My hearing in my left ear is half gone, one too many years running up and down the AF Flightline while F15s ran thier engines and an office right next to the engine run shop!

Good luck with the pics.

match picks are probably as good as those stash picks. terrible.
out of curiosity tonight i bought some fender stainless steel mediums. they're surprisingly playable. and they add a nice little chime to your sound. don't think i'll use them all the time, but might be fun for some really messy Big Black covers. ;)

Thanks, T2. I'll pick up a pack to try the next time I am at Guitar Center.

Years ago I decided to buy one of every pick type and size at my local music store that they had, then went home and tried every one. A worthwhile and inexpensive thing to do as they can change your tone almost as much as changing pickups.

I found the Fender premium celluoid mediums to sound the best to me. So next time I went to the store I bought the Fender 12 pack of the same picks. Well they turned out to feel thicker then the single pick of the same type. But they also sounded better.

Anyway I can't afford to collect amps and guitars, so I have a pick collection.........lol.

Anytime I go to a different store I check out their picks for something I don't have. I have never ran across those stainless steel ones mensioned above.

i found mine at sam ash here in nashvile.
i also have a bit of a pick collection. maybe all those un-used picks could be melted into a sheet and cut into a PICKguard someday. ha. i might just have to try that.
