OK, I think this is something that needs to be brought up. Musicians have been looked at for decades as druggies who care about only themselves and drugs. I think that drugs have got to be the stupidest thing ever invented and I hate hearing about them. Stevie Ray Vaughan is my absolute favorite guitarist and musician of all time, and I hate hearing about how he used to dissolve cocaine in his coffee to get over a hangover. It's terrible! So, as the next generation of musicians, we need to improve the image of us and our predecessors. Anybody with? 8)

Amen. SRV overcame his addiction before he died. Clapton also beat his demons of heroin and then alcohol. BB King does not drink or smoke and is in his 80s despite diabetes. Knoppfler's a racing addict but that's all I know about. Lots of positive role models.

True not all musicians were druggies, besides i'm not even actually sure that was confirmed. Stevie Ray Vaughn was one of the best. People need to learn it could've been worse

Stevie was one of the fortunate ones who actually got clean after using drugs. In the mid 80's he went to rehab and then spent the last few years of his all too short life playing drug free. And his music showed it!!!!!!!!
We have lost way too many talented musician's to drugs and alcohol.

Personally I too have been fortunate enough to get clean after using drugs and alcohol. In August of this year I will have 18 years clean!!!!!

Well, if you mean musicians who never ever catch a lil buzz you can count me out. Sorry, I see nothing wrong with occasional buzz as long as it isn't ruining your life. No hard drugs for sure though.

I can do without the drugs but I see nothing wrong with a weekend 6 pack either.

Sex Drugs Rock N Roll.

Whichever of the 3 you don't want, send it my way.

J/K.

Its all a matter of personal preference and choice, and what works best for you as long as you're not trying to give it to little kids. Some people give drugs a bad name, and some Straight-Edge bands (no drink, no smoke, no drugs, no sex) give sobriety a bad name because some of them write the most horrible music, but since they don't use drugs or drink, what is their excuse other than that they are terrible musicians? LOL. Then again, some hippie bands need to cut back. I don't care what anyone does as long as they aren't hurting, robbing, or stealing from people, and can keep themselves in check. I'd much rather deal with a functional junkie, yes they do exist, than a dysfunctional drunk.

Drugs like cocaine, heroine and speed promise freedom - whoo hoo - and deliver slavery. The drug - getting, taking, doing anything for it - takes over the person and controls the person. Alcohol is a part of our culture for thousands of years in weaker forms like beer and wine, but alcohol gets a grip on some people that's similar to addictive drugs. Since Clapton got clean his music is better, and it's also true of SRV in that he dipped a bit when he got really bad on it. They've done a lot of tests with chimpanzees and the chimps will hit the button to get another hit of cocaine or speed even while starving and dying for lack of water. The monkeys take the drug until they are dead. If you think people are different, check out a drugged out part of town and notice the people who are bad on drugs. No matter who you think you are, drugs will make a monkey out of you eventually, because you're human.
