This turned up in my Twitter feed the other day. From the telephone number on the accountants' office next door, I'm guessing it's somewhere in Southampton, England, but that's all I know about whose store and where it is. Anyone know anything more?

As soon as I saw the title of the thread, I knew what it would be.

It is indeed in Southampton near the railway station, that's my local guitar emporium, I was there yesterday in fact! They took over one of the other shops next door and have a matching acoustic amp storefront as well.

They normally have a rather superb selection of nice gear - http://www.theguitarstoreonline.co.uk/

(Also notice that all the knobs go to 11. )

I did try to find out more by googling 'guitar stores Southampton' and then using Streetview in Google maps, but unfortunately there was a line of buses in the way the day they went down Commercial Rd, so I couldn't be sure if that picture was of The Guitar Store there. Of course once you google their address, "62 Commercial Rd, Southampton" the images jump out at you. Here's another:

which I took from
http://afroblush.com/2012/05/02/how-awesome-is-this-shop-the-guitar-store-62-commercial-road-southampton/, where they have some good anecdotes about how they came up with the design.

Next time I'm on the South Coast, I'm deffo popping along!

Haha, yes, me too! :D

In the earlier days of the Forum there was a user here called Ed Mardell who left high school and went to work for that shop just around the time they first did that Fender amp frontage. The Marshall one came along later, I believe. I wonder if Ed is still there?

I'm not sure how they could make the middle shop look like a giant snare drum but I feel they somehow have missed a trick on that one...

Cheers - C

Guitar stores with amp fronts - I like! 8)

I own that Marshall acoustic amp, but I don't own any Fenders that go to 11.

I also had a good idea what this would be.

Thanks for joggin' the memory, Ceri.

Yeah, if THAT doesn´t bring you through the door,
well you can keep strumming them rusty strings!

I got GAS just looking at that store-front! :D

I love how the knobs go up to 11.

Is Nigel Tufnel a part owner of that store?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
