'Full stop' is just my own opinion. No doubt you have more choice in the US when it comes to radio than over here, because really almost all music on the radio is dire. I can think of only a few good shows (late night radio 1 DJ sets) that are worth listening to compared to the drivel they practically have on repeat most of the time!

Radio is DEAD here in the US, unless you're lucky enough to be near a low-powered FM/MW College station. Most of U.S. FM radio has been formatted to death, and the stations are owned by a VERY limited number of corporations (sound familiar?)

I was stationed in the UK in the mid-'80's and again in the late '80's/early '90's, and I remember WAY back when, when I could listen to Radio Caroline or Laser 558, and especially to Radio Luxembourg (the late great 208) if Radio 1 got boring. Actually, online music services are much better now than regular FM/MW, but I really miss simply turning on the radio rather than searching on the computer! I feel your pain. And I miss my old, video-laden MTV.

To start out I must say I'm not fond of this being a rap decade either. But let's face it: it has been marketable thus farand people do like it... sadly the majority of people and it will probably be that way for a while. There are some good rock bands out there still to listen to. as for the earlier comment about rock/blues/punk dying out, I don't think that is true either. I've heard many punk fans say that it naturally moves in cycles and comes back like a boomerang. Rock works in a similiar fashion but remains steady. Blues on the other hand is too strong to be beat out by someone talking to a synth beat.

How can rap define this decade when it's popularity is 25 years old. That's like saying Acid Rock defined the 90's because the Dead's popularity was at it's peak in '95. Nothing against rap, I'm a big fan of Easy-E, NWA, and Run DMC. But I don't see how something as Stagnant as Hip Hop can define anything modern. I think the "definition" will come from someone under the radar, pushing the creative envelope, and taking the instuments at hand to the next leavel. Like Evanescence, I'd say Korn, but EV has the Lyrics and The Voice. No one before them has used Classical Piano, Bombastic Guitar, and Techno rythms to such a dynamic end. If I had to pick one EV song to define them, it would be "Bring Me To Life", but I think thier "Stairway to Heaven" has yet to be written.

Keep in mind, I'm a 36 year old Bluesman, and whether I like it or not, the Blue defined the Late Depression Era 30's. Metal, or NU Metal, is the only Genre that's grown in the last 25 years, and it really took off in the last 10.
