Not all Rap is bad. The unfortunate thing is that most of it isn't memorable or innovative, at least to my ears.

Oh god that better be a joke. I'm fighting the urge to shoot myself in the face to forget I even read that

IMO the music of this decade has been electronica. Bands like Digitalism that have mixed their rock roots and their dance roots by playing live as a band, with a singer, a guitarist, keyboard players, DJs, etc. IMO the most progressive style of music out at the moment, beats the hell out of 90s dance, and beats the hell out of what passes for music in the charts, too!

I would have to agree with that. I think people will identify the music of the Strokes with this decade. A song like "Last Night" really sticks out in my head. Actually, the music from several of those alternative/indie New York bands could be (i.e. Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) In 10 years time people, I think, will still be talking music from those bands.

As far as rap goes I'm a big Jay Z, Wu-tang, and Ghostface Killah fan. So far those are the only people who make rap music that I would consider to be truly noteworthy artists. Who really have great amount of skill and integrity. If I had to liken them to guitarists I would have to put them in the same boat as someone like Tom Morello or maybe even an Adam Jones from Tool. Contemporary artists who have real artistic integrity.

You might be right. I think 'modern' Country music is where some of it went to hide (well, Pop at least). And I'm not a huge fan of that, either.

I've been living off of my CDs from the 90s back for the last 10 or so years! When will it end? :?

I saw this today, notice that most of it is more than 10 years old. I'm just posting it here for reference, I don't claim to agree or disagree. If there's a message in this list, it must be (to me) that just because something sells a million copies doesn't mean it's good. Or that artists with hit songs can sustain and repeat that. Or that if you're famous, you are automatically elevated to a superior musician/artist status. It doesn't work that way.

Rap sux!!!!!!!!!!!!

There seems to be a decent amount of closed minded people here. Like cryingstrat posted earlier, good is relative and the choice will be different for everyone. I agree that most rap that is played on the radio is pretty sub par music and talent wise, but to generalize all rap as "bad" is a poor choice in my mind. I'll actually listen to quite a bit of rap if i feel it has a decent meaning and isn't just made for commercial success. Come to think of it, I'm pretty open to most genres, although I dislike the majority of music from them, that doesn't mean that it all is terrible.

Most of the music played on the radio full stop. From personal experience I have found there is amazing music in every genre, the trick is putting in the effort, or having the luck, to discover the bands you like. I love rock music, but from my origins of listening to Led Zeppelin at 14/15 I've branched out to reggae, blues, jazz, classical, rap, hiphop, electro, techno, etcetc. What I'm trying to say is don't limit yourself by being closeminded, and I don't mean only when considering music!

+1, but I'm confused about what is meant by 'Full Stop', please refer to my posting that Rap is NOT all bad, I do enjoy some of it, though I do agree that most of it is subpar. I'm not closed minded, but I think fashion is no substitute for style. People can have tons of fashion (and pay through the nose for it) but have absolutely NO style at the same time. I reject the 'lowest common denominator' when it comes to just about anything, especially music., and especially to imitators of whatever the 'Flavor of the Week' is.

'Full stop' is just my own opinion. No doubt you have more choice in the US when it comes to radio than over here, because really almost all music on the radio is dire. I can think of only a few good shows (late night radio 1 DJ sets) that are worth listening to compared to the drivel they practically have on repeat most of the time!

hard question. I think I'll have to go with something like (even though it's not rock and roll, but Funk Rock) maybe some Chilli Peppers. I'd say either Snow or Dani California, their most popular songs this decade. One guy said American Idiot. I'd say that was pretty good. Possibly Daughtry (like someone else said again.)
