Can we not cull this list? Let's say any name that has never posted anything and joined prior to a month ago. I think a month should be sufficient for a newbie to look around and decide whether or not to dip his/her toes in.

That's up to the people that run this site to decide about that.

You have way too much time on your hands if you're obsessing over details like this

Hmm, I'm not sure I agree. I joined the forum in December 2007 (before I even owned a guitar!), but I didn't write my first post until June 2008. Newbies may sometimes need some time to work up the courage. And just remember: for every lurker member, there are many more who have never even created an account.

So I say: let 'em lurk! 8)

I registered and didn't post for a long time. Felt intimidated by so many knowledgeable folks that I was afraid of exposing myself to ridicule! I got over that...

So I think culling the heard may be better left if the Forum suffers from a technical load issue and not for grabbing a better name.

Mostly I brought this up because I found it to be fascinating. I didn't realise some people were going to react to it. As far as my suggestion to delete them, well it just seems silly to have half a million users who aren't. That's all. They can stay or go. Whatever. Truth is, you don't need a membership to lurk. You only need a membership to post. Just sayin'.

Like I said. I think you'll find the vast majority are here because this site is tied to the functionality that manages contest entries. Likely people who are "friends" on facebook with one of Fender's pages. Click a link. Sign up for a profile to enter to win. Then never even bother with the forum at all. I think Fender finds it more beneficial to manage one database and software that includes both their contest entries and their online forum and community and have a mess of inactive users in that community. Then to try to maintain databases and software for each. JMO, of course.

I myself am probably resonsible for 4 or 5 of those user accounts. I first registered under a different user name back in '07 but since then have gone through 5 different computers, 1 laptop and 4 home builds. Needless to say I lost and forgot a lot of passwords and email addies when switching over computers....so I hereby appologize for any emotional distress I have caused
