You guys know how I got involved with a band over the summer, but I have gotten involved with another. I played with the drummer today and he's a lot more flexible than my other drummer. Got more coherent play in, rather than sitting and discussing what to play for 5 minutes, we just rolled with eachother. Even have a name now. Anyways, I don't really want to be put in a situation where I'd have to pick one or the other. I love the people I play with, and wouldn't want to lose either. But anyways, could my situation go south?

Odds are against anyone getting rich and successful playing in a band, so just enjoy.

Keep your options open. It's likely that the decision will be made for you.

I'm doing it for my own enjoyment, that's why I'm worried. I don't want to cause fighting. The main reason this may be an issue is because my house is the main practice area.

And I'm just going to see what comes of this. We're planning on practicing a lot and eventually gigging. (eventually, probably out of school when that happens)

Only you can make that call.

What do you think?

In this town there are quality musicians who play in not one, not two, but even three or four different bands. Where trouble arises is when two (or more) of these bands try to book gigs for the same night - big trouble. Since you are not gigging out for the foreseeable future, just enjoy the jamming and let nature take its course. Odds are that one of the bands you are in will end up gigging before the other... then you can decide where you want to go.

Further odds are that once you start gigging regularly you won't have time for two bands.

Consider the nail being hit on the head. I just don't want to feel as if I'm abandoning. Maybe it won't be so bad? I don't know, however, I'm going to try very hard with the new gang (known as 'Masterflash') and try to play at least some kind of school event. I dono, wherever I'm lead I'll go. It's too much fun to pass up playing with a band, even if the location is dull.

You'll find out soon enough that what band you play in will be the least important thing in your life. Having a good education, a good job and the ability to buy those diapers for your newborn and then providing for his/her life will take priority as you get older over anything else you will ever deal with.

Kick the scabs out and rock while you can.

There's nothing bad with playing in two bands, as long as you can ensure that you are able to invest enough time into it (for both, equally and satisfyingly for the band).
As soon as you feel your time limited and thatfore one or both bands suffering from you not being able to thoroughly take part, you WILL HAVE TO decide for one or the other.

I personally have a very serious attitude towards playing in a band, even though it's just a hobby. I know how much effort it takes to get just ONE band running. I couldn't do two bands at the same time unless one of them is perfectly running already, meaning that I don't have to invest lots of time other than learning a new song every once in a while.

So it depends on how you approach the situation. If it's just for the fun of jamming together ... fine. If you have time enough to seriously build up both bands ... fine. If not either of both ... make a choice, so not to disappoint the band(s).

I used to play in multiple bands in my 'formidable years'. It was great because I felt (and still do) that the more people I could play with, the more it would enhance my playing and experience. Needless to say, my being in two bands didn't go over well with either band but both begrudgingly tolerated it. This situation came to a head once when both bands starting gigging and became popular. In time, there were conflicts where both bands were booked at the same times in different places. This forced me to choose one band over the other and that sucked. Of course, I chose but not before finding a suitable replacement and showing him everything we were doing. There were (eventually) no hard feelings as my replacement worked out quite well. In retrospect, I came to realize that playing in multiple bands who had no ambitions to get out of the basement or garage was fine and dandy. On the other hand, if there was any possibility that said band(s) planned on gigging, then it would be extremely unfair to them and I made sure I would not place myself in that situation again.

face it, you are going to make folks angry. its going to happen. i don't see anything wrong with what you are doing as long as you aren't making comparisons and such. productive comparisons might be helpful.
i admire the fact that you don't want to start crap but at some point its going to happen. i'm sure will handle it the right way.
good luck and enjoy. try not to worry about stuff you can't control. you'll have plenty of time for that when you get older.
on a side note. our band is jamming for the 1st time in 6 months. honestly i don't want to go. i'm extremely sore haven't played in amwhile. the only reason i'm going is to visit them and play my new guitar thru my new amp at a high volume level. do i feel like a d1ck? yes. am i going to dwell on it. no. we haven't added any new tunes in 4 years.

If you don't feel it, don't play to it.
