If you go to a guitar store and look at the Fender section, you will see a lot of sunbursts, blacks, whites, and grays. You might see the occasional Candy Apple Red or Lake Placid Blue. If you're really lucky you might see a bright color like Daphne Blue or Surf Green. But the majority of Fenders are in dark, drab colors. It's almost depressing. Why is this? I would buy a Surf Green Mexican Standard Tele if they made one. I'd like to see brighter colors return to the mainstream models. Don't get me wrong, I love black and white and sunburst and gray guitars, but I would like the choice to buy brighter colors.

Does anybody agree? Disagree?

Those brighter colours were from yesteryear but they're still available on certain models. Check out the classic 50's and classic 60's models.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

because they match the mood we are in at this time. the brighter colors from yesterday matched the happier slightly drug enduced mood then. i don't think i have ran into a happy person today. all seem mad and depressed hence the "drab colors".

It's about what moves out the door rather than a kaleidoscope of colors as far as a retail store is concerned.....
If you want a special color ( which is available ) you'd have to order it.
Last I checked at GC the selection was colorful, but even there, I mean how many guitars would you have to stock to please the OP with every color in every model line... :?: :?:

It's just not a realistic expectation, last I looked at the Audi dealership, they didn't have every color in every model line represented either....

I've never really seen Fender's colors as drab versus colorful, but rather, I've seen them more as boring versus interesting. As much as I love Fender guitars (obviously, that's why I'm here), my biggest gripe is their repeated use of boring colors. Olympic White, Dakota Red, etc., obviously aren't drab, but they're boring. They use too much of the same colors; colors that weren't really interesting to begin with, and they seem to attempt to make them seem interesting by changing the name of the color (baby blue is "Faded Sonic Blue").

Fender, if you're going to go so far as to create a Pawn Shop Series; a line of guitars that embody a sense of breaking away from convention, why not go the extra distance and carry that sense over into the color schemes? Personally, I would like to see colors along the lines of pumpkin orange and maybe an emerald green. There are many colors more interesting than the ones we keep seeing show up time and time again.

We've seen interesting colors from Fender on occasion (Fiesta Red, that orange sparkle color on that Tele HH, etc.), but it's just not often enough.

I agree that fender colors are boring. Fender Japan has all the cool colors. Even squier has some more exciting colors. Bring back the firestorm finish, orange sparkle or something like that. I ordered a black paisley today. Why not something bright instead, yellow paisley, anything!

I have a Natural, a Silver Chrome and a Cherry Cola. Sorry, Black and white don't compute with me as colors.

  Man salmon........Bold colour and name for it huh......

And to the OP i thought the same many moons ago but who wants to see a Fender strat in Charvel Yellow???..... I think keeping the main production just to staple colours kinda keeps a real guitar vibe to the whole deal don't you think??.... Theirs been plenty of sparkey bright colours in limited editions over the years if you must get your colour on......If they don't float your boat.....two words.... Custom Shop....

OP...I would have to disagree just a bit, there is nothing boring about a beautifully executed 2 Color Sunburst Strat with a maple neck! I think Fender, Gibson, and even PRS have decided to stick with more traditional colors and left the Neon Green stuff to Ibanez and the like.

IMHO YMMV.

I have quite an assortment of sunburst Fender guitars in two- and three-color sunbursts. I also own about 12 other species of sunburst guitars. I think they are okay, but I also think there isn't really that much special about them. Boring? Yeah, a little. Nowadays when I am shopping for nice, used guitars I usually avoid sunbursts.

My Stratocaster is Artic White. I love it. It reminds me of an Abba-Zaba bar.
My Fender Jazz Bass is naked as God intended.
