I traded my 2005 Jeff Beck Strat for this yesterday. When I did the deal, myself and it's previous owner thought it was a Duo Jet, but in fact it's a 2005 Gretsch G6128TVP Power Jet, a souped up version of the Duo Jet with TV Jones® Power’Tron™ pickups, made in Japan. I brought it home, cleaned it up and put a new set of Ernie Ball Standard slinky 10s and set her up. Quickly I realised that this Guitar was a steal and vastly superior to the Strat I traded for it. Even straight through the amp with no overdrive and a nice helping of reverb, this guitar is special. The ebony fretboard is just incredible. The space control bridge (a non standard bridge) takes some getting used to especially when it fell off the Guitar when i was re-stringing it. It's literally held to the Guitar by string tension. I may have to see about a long term solution to this but it's not an issue right now and the next time it's restrung, I'll change out two strings at a time rather than take them all off together.

I'm thinking about putting a Bigsby but it will have to be the factory correct one which may be hard to find. It will also mean that I will have to get a new hard case for it as the current one would not accommodate the Guitar with a Bigsby attached. Decisions decisions! I love this Guitar. :)

Very nice looking guitar... looks like it's dressed in a Tuxedo.

The original bridges on these Gretch's were even more complex. Have a look at the Harrison guitar. For a Bigsby you'd likely require the same type of rocking bridge they put on that one.
My old high school buddy still owns his '59 DuoJet. I've spoken about that guitar several times in these pages. Every time I pick up that guitar the realization of having played it when it was brand new over 50 years ago blows me away

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Oh that's a beut. That first picture of the guitar just casually lying on the hardwood floor just says it all. Congrats.

Nice guitar, you got the better of that deal for sure. Next string change try leaving both E strings on. That leaves the finger board mostly exposed for a good cleaning, and it does keep the bridge in place.
There is a post in the lounge about Violin Rosin dust keeping a pick from slipping out of a players hand, a little on the bottom of your guitar's bridge will keep it in place with no damage to the finish. Learned that from the Gretsch Forum.

Cheers,
John.E

I have a Guild Starfire with a moveable bridge. As John said, leave the two E's on, that holds the bridge in place and gives you enough room to clean and oil the fretboard. You have to check your intonation periodically just to make sure you don't knock it out with your palm. But I've really had no problems with it over the years.
Why did you want to trade your Beck Strat? I nearly bought one a while back. I got outbid by $20 with 6 seconds left on Ebay.

Hi torresfan: that is just a beautiful guitar, and a total classic! Congrats.

Regarding Bigsbys: if you know and like them then do whatever you feel is right. However, if you haven't used one I so strongly recommend you go to a store and try one out before modding your Gretsch. Bigsbys look great - and personally I've never met one that functions half as well as a regular Fender type vibrato. Return to pitch can be truly horrible with a Bigsby: I have no idea how the likes of Brian Setzer manage to do what they do with them and you can only respect their skill. They're not an easy ride.

It would be a real shame to drill holes in that gorgeous guitar to fit a Bigsby, and then find you don't like it.

Anyway. Thanks for the pix: you now have me drooling for a Gretsch! Enjoy that geet.

Cheers - C

I think this is the next guitar I want to buy.

Great, just great. Play some Rockabilly, OK?

Cheers

Congrats!

Do the Powertrons give you the same cleans/mids as Filtertrons?
