I've got one of their UB802 mixers. Bought it new for $39.95 a few years back. So far so good.

Without a long explanation, I took it with me to my daughters wedding, reception was in the same building. The D.J. forgot his board at home and was all paniced. Being the Father of the bride he came to me and said he had to go get it. When I told him I had one, then showed him what it was, he was a little skeptical. I told him to try it and it worked out fine.

This is my only experience with Behringer, I'm satisfied.

The ones I've tried (Never bought one, but have test driven a number of them, especially ones based on Boss pedals they don't make anymore) tracked poorly were noisy, and didn't seem to be very sturdy.
But if you have a very low budget and just want them to play at home and learn to use that kind of pedal--they might be okay, as long as you don't drop them, need quiet, or with some pedals-you don't mind some tracking issues (Especially the Octave divider one I tried)

Used a fair bit of their stuff over the last five years. Power amps, mixers, crossovers, lighting rig controllers, pedals, gadgets and the multi effects unit pictured on page 1.

In truth the only problem I had was with a digital reverb pedal. It was just reverb overkill. Not noisy, not tone draining non of that nonsense. I just couldn't get as little reverb as I'm comfortable with.

The V-amp was a great bit of kit. I used that side by side with a POD V2 for about six months. Just the POD, V-amp and a power amp. It made for a very light, easy to set up live rig. Though I thought it did better on the clean sounds than it did the drive. I found the POD to do opposite.

As for the rest of the stuff. I only use that as in it's supplied by a venue. It does what it says on the tin and I've never had a problem down to that stuff. The stuff crops up everywhere and half the time you don't even notice you're using it.

Good or bad depends on what type products you are talking about.

I own some Behringer things. Mainly Behringer microphones. I have 5 of them. No failures. The condensers aren't Neumans and the dynamics aren't Shures but they seem to work and are surprisingly durable. Fine for rehearsals and home recording or karaoke.

I own a small Eurorack 1002 mixer I use for home stuff. It has worked for 5 years at least with not a single failure and I use it about every day. The mic preamps are called "invisible preamps" but if you turn the gain knob high enough they aren't invisible at all since they sound like an April shower on a glass roof. Guess I should count myself lucky it hasn't smoked.

I own a Behringer BDI-21 bass amp emulator pedal that I use for home practice and demo work into the mixer which is patched into the computer which feeds headphones. This pedal is about 3 years old. It isn't as good as my Tech 21 Bassdriver Deluxe, but it works for home use and saves my real Bassdriver for when it really matters.

I have a Behringer headphone amp, never used it once. Bought it thinking I might need it. Haven't yet.

I've never had a Behringer product crap out. They aren't the best, but the ones I've had have been "OK" for hobby use and were cheap.

A friend has a Behringer keyboard amp, if you turn it too loud it overheats and shuts down for a while. Odd.

Another friend has a pair of Behringer powered speakers. One of them stopped working and had to go to the shop due a power supply issue. They sound ok when they work but JBL sounds better.

I've never actually used a Behringer Bass Amp. However some of their bass amp specs that I read a few years ago were puzzling. They were doing things back then like putting a 200 watt speaker in a 300 watt combo. Genius! Can't say if that is still the case but it was a recipe for disaster. They have changed their spec sheet so it no longer lists the speaker power capacity on that model. I mean that was a pretty glaring deficiency. Their aluminum cone bass speakers are notorious for having the cones separate.

When you say something is "hit & miss" I take that to mean you can get a good mic or a bad mic. I got 5 good ones in a row so those aren't hit & miss. In truth every company has weak links in their product line and Behringer's weak links seem to be anything powered by AC current. Their stuff is cheap but some of it is OK, not the best but OK. Some of it is less OK like the Strat knockoffs and amps. Their passive speakers sound OK, but again they aren't JBL or anything like that. Their floor monitors sound OK but are really, really heavy meaning particle board construction, so don't ever drop one.

I can understand having to use Behringer PA gear for a start-up band, but I'd be looking to replace the AC powered things in pretty short order.
