Ah man,
I've got to say something here! This is just begging me to give my 2 cents worth.
I'm new to the forum and a new Tele Deluxe owner and thus(despite having 2 other guitars) have a renewed love affair with playing and practice. I can't put my Tele down!
For me it's balance, so I often practice beside her on the couch while she reads or watches TV, unplugged or with phones to my amp. She is supportive of me and my playing so I am a lucky man however she does not wish to be a guitar widow or have me somehow not involved in what she is doing or 'our' life together. Sometimes I tread a fine line walking on the edge...she does not play at all(guitar that is ) now of course I get, you are spending a lot of time on that Fender site...so it's a bit of give and take and patience and growing towards a mutual understanding so I hopefully do not hear those dreaded words..sit down honey, we need to talk... but I admit, I am selfish and driven to achieve where I want to go as a guitar player. My thing today is that famous line from Inglorious Basterds-you don't get to Carnegie Hall without practice :!: and so I do, come hell or highwater

I have been married some 21 years now. I spend a lot of time with my guitars, especially the last few years. My wife knew she married a guitarist and has been very supportive over the years. I tend to play when she is at work or late at night.

As the OP states, we must remember our families and keep them happy too. I have a rule: A happy wife equals a happy life (if your married).

we have all heard that one before
eventually they get used to it and they give you a place to be alone with your other mistress
One thing that helped me and the ball and chain, is to simply dedicate a certain amount of time during the day that we BOTH do our own thing. while the wife reads her novels I play guitar ( in another room of coarse)
I actually started bugging her while she was reading to help her realize how annoying she was when I was playing guitar.

also you need a hobby that you both enjoy that you can share! (not just sex....that slows down after a while anyways  ) something like crafts, softball, shopping, drugs or whatever you guys like.
me and my wife do Jigsaw puzzles and a good friend of mine and her husband smoke pot together  the key is having something that sparks conversation
just my .2 cents

unless you get lucky like strings :|

Lol, Hunny, I'll be at somebizzares place...

If this is my only bad thing and vice? Then I'm not bad at all
eh?
Besides playing guitar helped with my quitting smoking.
