IMO dismissing entire genres as crap is an incredibly short sighted and uneducated way to behave, but ultimately the only person that will be missing out will be yourself.

Personally I have found songs I love and songs I hate in every genre you could name.

Feel free to insert the usual opinion based acronyms here

I don't care for it either... Techno and computer generated pop stuff requires very little talent - if at all. Push a button and the "music" starts. Push another button and other instruments and "noise" come in.

What has happened to the music industry in today's age???

Then - 4 guys from Liverpool played their own instruments, wrote their own songs, and sang harmonies. They were so incredible, they influenced everybody! There will never be a band like them again.

Now - Your "song" is already done or sampled on a computer. The rhythm is nothing but a repeating loop that is also computer generated. You are required to have a scantily clad girl singer who can't sing at all, but has a body that will stop traffic. The studio uses autotune to fix her horrible vocals. During live performances, she lip syncs over a vocal track. There are also 12-15 dancers on stage for reasons unknown.

Sad...

If you think that's how it's done then you are somewhat misguided. Say what you want but I know a lot of electronic producers and they spend HOURS sat putting their beats together trying to find just the right sound on their snare for christs sake. Sure you can put together something stale from sampled loops but the real guys spend just as long painstakingly putting their stuff together as any band do. You are aware that a lot of them actually use real instruments or electronic versions to input what they want into the computer?

So just another person who really knows nothing about electronic music, it really is infuriating how people who know nothing cast such harsh judgements.

Ah, yes! Let the games begin! :D

One thing that REALLY annoyed the crap out of me was this trend,
back when a pathetic loop was put on top of Gregorian Chants.
Remember that?
For some reason, that really brought out my
anti-social, psychotic, phobia thing that sometimes comes around.
Only some SVR or Emily Remler could fix that!

Speaking of REAL electronic stuff, Future Sound of London
are true sonic sculptures, worth looking into! 8)

I'm not really sure what they call Techno these days, but I really enjoy layering loops of my own playing and others along with samples from diverse sources. Thumping electronic beats, synthetic basslines, sound effects. The possibilities are endless.

Why do you think this has any less artistic merit than what you do?

I'm an old guy who also likes Delta blues, Jazz, Classical, Reggae ...Lots of stuff.

Hating entire genres is just ignorant.

....Mark.

I played around with that Sony Acid Pro software back in the day trying to make some decent techno and it aint easy  I am sure software has come a long way since then
but allot of these guys do this stuff live and it takes great timing and practice. so they aren't completely talentless.

Yes it absolutely is music.

Lady Gaga is actually a fairly talented artist, and her songs are incredibly well made and serve their purpose 100%. They aren't trying to create technically complex or creative songs to please blues and jazz musicians, they are creating music that a majority enjoy and are easy to sing. I happen to really like Lady Gaga, and hell even Clarence Clemons deemed her worthy enough to donate a sax solo to.

If it's so easy then you're more than welcome to prove us all wrong and throw something that good together for us all here.
