Hey Guys,
I was just wondering which would be a better option to go for out of the Fender American Special Strat and Tele (I like just about all kinds of music other than classical and country)
Which would you reccomend?

Welcome to the forum.

If you don't like Country, then the Tele is out.

I disagree. I use Teles pretty much exclusively and I don't really play anything remotely country-ish.

The best thing you can do is listen to and play both and decide which you prefer.

Ill reword it. The Tele is the most popular C&W guitar even made.

As far as American Specials go, how many people here really like them? i was all excited about them and went to a GC that had a bunch. I was so disappointed. I really was G.A.S.ing for a red one with a maple neck. I played six Precisions and two Jazz, they sucked. I found something nasty on all of them. Some of the finishes were horrible, when the manager asked me how I liked them, i told him. He started to go into a big "Oh, man, they're really good" routine. He quit talking when I showed him the gap in the neck pocket and the screws in the tuners that weren't all the way in.

Now beore you go off on me, this was my own experience, if you got good ones, i'm happy for you. Just wondering is all.

Oxfan, sorry you caught a bum lot. My experience is just the reverse, picked up a hss strat just being nosey and wound up taking it home. The neck was the first thing that caught my attension, very flat and smooth, then the pick-ups and the 5 way switch kept me playing in the store for about 1/2 an hour.
Dresner 21, Best thing I can say is go play a few for yourself, who knows, while in the stores you might find something entirely different.

Have fun,
John.E

This was when they first came out and i only played basses. I have heard of others who bought guitars and were pleased.

Glad you got a good one.

I own an American Special Tele and am very pleased with it (and I play almost no country songs). But, if you're looking for advice on a choice, the Strat is a more versitile guitar.
