One of the oldest and most respected bass guitarists has a Jay turser as his #1, of course he modded it but, he loves it. I'm sure he'll be aroud to make a comment.

It's a Jay Turser and the OTD price was $119.

Jay Turser? Never heard of those.

It sure looks stunning beautyful! Looks like Daphne Blue or at least very similar.
I love the combination with the dark rosewood fingerboard.

One can get really lucky with some of the Fender copies out there.

I remember a forum member posting a while ago, that he (or she) was sick about reading posts like "I got a cheapo strat and it's as good as Fender's blablabla..." (or something similar, I don't remember the correct wording).

In fact, as much as I hate to admit it as a Fender fan for many years, there's a few very good sounding copies out there which are very comfortable to play as well.
I had the same luck with my Burns Cobra.

Of course, often there are minor manufacturing glitches in cheaper guitars, like a badly finalized/polished zero-fret in my case which caused a "ping" on every bending note I played on the three high strings (g, b, e) and a faulty soldering point but those were easy to fix.

After all, if one isn't a snob, it all comes down to sound and playability, no matter what brand name is on the headstock. Big brand names might have a more constant quality in manufacturing but with a little luck, cheap copies can be a big surprise every now and then!

If you are that happy with the guitar, then you've made a very lucky grab for this price.
Congratulations!! :)

Since you're rocking a Fender tube amp, you can judge the quality of the pickups way better than if you were using a modeling amp. Pickups usually are the worst part in low budget guitars. Considering that you've payed less money for the whole guitar than just a set of PUs would cost, you must have had a very lucky day.

Infinity guitars is a small shop close to me and I went up there to pick up a cheap guitar, with decent wood and I really didn't care about the hardware since the purpose of this purchase was something to build upon. A project so to say. I was looking online thinking of a Squire, or Epiphone or the likes. Something with a decent base to build on under $200.

The guitar I bought was the first one that caught my eye. It's actually Sea Foam Green. But I didn't pick it up first because, you know how that goes. So I started looking at the other guitars and the owner came by and I asked about the comparison between the Jay Tursers and the higher priced Squires. He told me to play them!

I hooked up to a Vibro King and played 3 of these Tursers. I know this is a Fender forum and I have been a Fender guy since the late 60s, but I am extremely impressed with this guitar. I may not even upgrade it and leave it alone.

Unfortunately it's now sitting in front of my $900 Godin Velocity and now is sporting the new strap.

I guess it goes to show that expensive guitars aren't always better, but a great amp can make a $119 guitar make you drool. :P

I've never owned a Turser but the small shop near me has them. They're remarkable for their low price. As far as what makes a guitar good, it's the player.

Glad you're happy with your new purchase, I still think TS could get you a good price for the Godin.

I decided to wait until day 3 before responding to your comment. Maybe I was just excited and was over rating this guitar since it was new to me.

I give it a 9. It play's and sounds better than some MiA guitars I have played and owned.

So what can you get for $119 dollars these days, not much. Its remarkable they can sell a fine looking instrument, that gets a 9 for $119. Hard to believe.

So maybe it won't hold up over time, keep us posted.

Why would you find it hard to believe? I have owned many guitars over the last 47 years that I have playing and this one is the best bang for the buck guitar I have ever owned.

Maybe I should of explained better my rating of a "9". Yea it's no Custom Shop or other high end guitar, but that wasn't my goal when I bought this thing. I went to the shop to pick up a cheap project guitar for possible upgrades and I'll most likely leave it mostly stock. For that reason, I give it a 9.

As far as durability, it seems well built, but If I ever need to drive nails, Ill use a hammer.

Gary, congratulations! That is a beautiful looking Strat copy! For $119 you found yourself a little workhorse. My drummer has wanted an electric guitar for awhile and he bought the Squier Strat I had hidden in the corner at the pawnshop. Some one had scribbled with a blue magic marker all over it's white body and carved several names on the back. But it had a maple neck that felt great and everything was there, a bit damaged but there. $100 and my drummer has it in his living room. I have new strings and a trem arm for his new solid body electric guitar. Have fun with your new guitar!

Thanks man. Not everybody here is a gear snob.

Well, I actually sport snobbish gear myself.

Just a simple comment that $119 doesn't go very far these days. It looks like a very nice guitar, love the colour. If you back out the store's profit, the importer's profit, the cost to ship from China to USA then half way across the USA the manufacturer in China got maybe $60. The $60 dollars needs to pay for wood, parts, strings, paint, expendables, the factory, factory machines and tools, labour plus the factory's profit. That's what I find hard to believe. I spend more than $119 on an average meal. No insult meant in any way, I know you're a professional and don't spend $119 on your number one, its for a project.

The question on durabilty is more towards the quality of parts, maybe the frets will wear down in no time at all and the tuners will break after a couple of uses. Again, going back to the factory's costs, they cut corners wherever possible especially using less expensive parts, especially where the parts look just like a quality part to an inexperienced eye. so I'm curious if you don't change everything out if the parts hold up to use over time.
