I'm still on the fence with the caps as well. definitely want paper/oil, though.

I really don't get the NOS capacitor craze that going on, those old caps do go bad.....
at the miniscule voltage the guitar operates on its not deadly or anything but by now they are WAY out of spec. they wont last in storage forever like tubes......

if you do re fret it yourself, for your first time just use a basic nickel wire. since you wont have the proper equipment to radius the wire, SS and harder wire will be very difficult.
SS frets tend to pop back out on you. also if they are easy to file you don't have to use as much pressure and if you slip you don't scar the crap out of your neck.

also fret removal on old guitars is tedious..... get ready for chipped fret slots

I'm definitely not doing it myself, though, I do have an old junk neck I could experiment on.

I missed the part about you supplying the wire  that is a good price though.

Other ones in the area were double and sometimes almost triple that.

Most of the original screws for the pg were missing, so I'm going to try to age a set of 11 of them. I've got them roughed up and sitting in a vat of acidic things, then I might leave em in the dirt for a few.

Kluson tuners came today. only had to drill one extra hole. I consider this a victory. 8)

Just added the ground wire. The knobs and shielding tape will be here by this weekend hopefully.

Well, after shielding with copper tape, adding a ground, and cleaning the hell out of everything, there's no more squealing. The knobs came in today too. It's done, minus the refret, which will come when I get my funds together.

Just keep the finger board clean and from getting dried out because it makes re fretting easier. less chance of board damage.

It was well oiled when I got it, should I oil a week or a few days prior to taking it to the shop?

Sounding better too. Once I set up a new recording rig I'll be sure to get clips up. It's so much better for cleans and takes sloppy heaps of reverb well.

Also, the volume and tone pots are strange. Here's pics of them cranked and lowered all the way.

They turn opposite ways  Just a strange quirk about an oddball vintage guitar? I think so.

It plays very well, even with the frets in their current state, and my high action. There's no buzz, surprisingly.
