I'm sorry, Bill. The boys at Alexandria Music Co. took care of me really well. The luthier gave me a price of $250 firm if I buy the wire.

No need to apologize to me. You do what you have to do. Hopefully they will do a good job for you. I don't even know if Larry does SS, but if he did, I know he would have done an excellent job for you.

Who are you getting your wire from? And are you getting SS?

Either jumbo or tall skinny. Not doing SS because he most likely has to do a little extra work just getting the wire to stay in place. The factory frets were very shallow.

Also, I ordered a set of nickel Kluson Deluxe tuners, I'm going to upgrade the pots and caps, and I'm actually adding a ground wire! (didn't have one when I opened it up. It was cut into pieces, laying inside the body)

Also planning on potting the pickups in home. (definitely need to videotape that lol)

I did a thorough cleaning on it that took about 2 hours. There's still some DNA that needs removal, so I've got maybe another hour or so left to put in it.

You can order it from Stewart Mac pretty cheap about 6ft. I have never wax potted pickups before but, if you ground it with some basic shielding it should quiet down. I will be curious how much the wax potting helps. Let us know.

When you say DNA I think Monica Lewinsky.

I found the term funny. I stole it from a guy who does guitar repairs/setups/cleanings on YT named Davey4557. Check him out, he's pretty funny and does some really cool videos.

I guess you could think Monica Lewinsky. The Clinton years were not as funny as the bush years, though.

i know it won't apply because you'd have to find something with a similar neck in better shape, but like texasguitarslinger said, when i finally decided my frets were done, i bought a squier bullet strat with a really smooth neck on it and just stole the neck off it. neck replacement for 100 bucks. and then i gave what was left of the squier plus the junk neck to a friend in desperate need of a guitar. :)

The only thing is that it has a very weird connection to bolt on. It slides in from the top of the pocket and locks in place, then is bolted. This would be a $@!&* to recreate, so it's not worth bothering with. The cost of a neck, plus the cost of the work to recreate the joint would probably be the same cost as a refret.

What do you guys think about Jescar? I'm thinking about their Gold-EVO frets.

I think I'm going to go with the biggest Gold-EVO frets out there.

What should I do for pots/caps?

And I'm getting rid of the dingy grey knobs for a set of witch hats.

I imagine the pots/caps will amazingly improve the clarity.

Looks good. Don't know about the caps though. I would think a .047 would be the warmest sounding you would want to go.? I use .022 and .015 with Strats.
